wyld_dandelyon: (Cards)

Well, yesterday was frustrating.  It took the cable guy a lot longer than expected to change things out, and then we ended up with a new router too, so I had to figure out how to reset the password and tell all the devices in our world how to connect to the new internet source.  But enough of that.

It's been too long, and I want to do readings for people!

As always, new friends and old are very welcome.

About the readings,

You can simply ask for a single card (with the usual option, for people who tip, to ask for a clarifying card if something isn't clear). The guitar case below is my personal PayPal link, featuring my own artwork, which still inspires me even though it isn't Tarot-related.

I am also offering a five-card reading for $25, or if you want a larger reading we can discuss costs. A signal boost for readings or for the Patereon will allow you to ask for a clarification card on some part of this reading, if you have a question after reading the reading.

Regardless of the length of the reading, you may ask about real life or a creative project, even for a character you play in a game. I can draw a card for you to meditate on, one to represent the Guide you need right now, or to get you unstuck. I can draw a card for your protagonist or villain, can draw a card or cards for you to use as writing or art prompts, and I can modify a more-traditional five-card spread into a prompt for a story focusing on plot or characters or a little of both. Let me know if you have any particular request.

For free one card readings, you can pick from my decks, including the Brian Froud's Faeries Oracle, the Daughters of the Moon Tarot (one of the round decks), or the Shapeshifter Tarot. If you want a Guide to companion you in the new year or the holidays, the Susan Seddon Boulet or Fairies Oracle both work well. If you don't pick a deck, I might pick from any of the decks available to me.  I do have a lot of other decks, so any deck I've read from before is available if you tip.

The first card is free (though tips are always appreciated, and especially right now as buying a new boiler broke my budget). However, I understand all too well that when people don't have cash or spoons that is generally when they most need inspiration. Don't be afraid to ask for a card if you can't tip.

When you tip, it's helpful to me for you to mention it here so I can connect your Paypal information with your request. Tips should be at least $2 (Paypal charges fees). If Paypal doesn't work for you, drop me a message and we'll work something out.  (Hopefully the Guitar Case below will still properly link to Paypal.)

I will reply to all requests here unless a request arrives after I edit the post to declare the draw closed.  I intend to leave it open for several days at least, but in the unlikely event that I get more requests than I can easily handle, I will officially close it.

Thank you, Blessed Be, and may the new year be low-stress, productive, healthy, and joyful!

Status: Open!

As always, while I work hard to offer insight and inspiration, all I can legally promise is entertainment. See my "Dandelyon's Readings" page if you have questions.

The interwebs tell me that this is the "Micro Moon." I'm not quite sure what to make of that, except of course that it's time to read cards for people. The Winter Solstice is coming up too. Given how busy things are for everyone (including me), I'm leaving this open until December 23.

Feel free to ask about the new year if you want, since magically the new moon and new year are the same kind of energy, but I do plan to do a Full Moon reading on January 1, so you can, instead, ask for advice on handling the holidays or on new projects or, really, anything you want.

If you want to give me a present this Yule, please go look at my Patreon, I'd love to hear what you think. I'll be posting a 1st draft chapter of my Quirky Writer's Guide to Foiling Writer's Block in the next day or two, and then will start work on a post for my very first (and treasured) patron.

Would people be interested in a more expensive reading for the new year? If so, a month-by month reading or something else? If there's interest, I can arrange to do that on the Solstice or as part of the January 1 readings.

As always, New friends and old are very welcome.

It's been a busy week, what with necessary paperwork (already blogged about) and getting ready for Capricon. What I thought would be the easiest thing proved to take hours--finding the black paper for the Midwinter Faire workshop. I'd put it on a shelf with other crafting stuff when I brought it home from my Aunt's house, but then that shelving unit had to be moved, and I set it up as a place to sort stuff instead. So I ended up spending hours cleaning and not finding the paper anywhere.

Until I realized that the cats had made a mess on the sheets I used to cover my daughter's bed when she was off at college. The sheets are in the wash as I write, and I went to grab something else to cover the bed and found the paper. Thank goodness! So, now I'm mostly packed, with art to put in the art show (if there's room), and two very full recycling bins are waiting to be pulled to the "curbside" of the alley for pickup on Friday. We already managed to fill the trash bin this week (I tossed some old shoes and relegated some plastic dishes to the "donate" bags), I wrangled some doctor's appointments, went to the bank, and got someone in to look at the leaky pipes and get them fixed. Not a bad week's work, so far, though more expensive than I had hoped. And I still need to get boards on my front porch repaired, but at least I've got someone planning to do it soon now. There's still more I'd like to have gotten done, of course, but that's nothing new.

Next Tuesday is New Moon, and I've decided to do another One Card Draw. I hope it will help defray costs of home repairs, and I'm certain it will help get my writing flow going. At least it did last time.

So, if you want a reading, or know someone else who might, I'll look forward to seeing you then!

So, do you have a favorite deck or decks, whether it's one I've used here or not? If so, why?

Look at my beautiful new icon by [livejournal.com profile] meeksp!  She captured the bright enamels, the different metal colors, and even the casual integration with daily life shown in my Torn World-style readings by Rai-Kunabei.  Thank you, Meeks!

(For those who don't know, she periodically draws an icon as a random "door prize" for one of the people who comment on her drawings.  You should go check out her art.)

I've done this before. If you hang out here, you probably know what to do. If not, and you want more information that the notes below, go here for a bit of information.  (I'm carving a bit of time out of my lunch hour to make this post, so please pardon me if I seem rushed!)

EDIT: THIS DRAW IS CLOSED. However, if you missed it, and really want a card or three, I'll add you to the queue for $5/card.

Please leave a question or comment, and a tip if you can.  Anyone can request a free card.  As a thank-you for people who tip $5 or more, I'll do a two-card reading, and $10 or more, a three-card reading.  You can suggest a divination method/deck if you have a preference, out of the ones that I use.

I will probably do most of the readings over the weekend, however, I wanted to get this posted so anyone who particularly wants a reading drawn on the Equinox has that opportunity.  Please let me know if a reading done during the equinox would be particularly meaningful to you.  Otherwise, patrons will be given priority on readings.  Please note:  I do readings to the best of my ability to provide inspiration, insight, and entertainment.  Please go see a mundane professional if you need one.

Again, sorry for the brevity of the introductory post!  Gotta run!

Oh, dear, I almost forgot to put the hat out!

Looking outside, I'm not convinced. But in honor of the turning of the year, I'm doing a card draw. If you haven't stopped by before, you're welcome to read my introduction to my draws.

If you would like a reading, please leave a comment here.  You can ask for any of my favorite decks that I've used before (including but not limited to the Faerie's Oracle, my Susan Seddon Boulet art cards, and the Shapeshifter Tarot), or for a Torn World reading, done as if you encountered Rai Kunabei in a visit to Torn World.  You can leave a specific question, ask for a Guide, request inspiration, or ask for a reading for one of your characters or pertaining to your creative work.

Please remember that card readings cannot substitute for consulting a professional any more than burning prosperity incense can substitute for actually applying for a job.  It is my hope here to provide inspiration and entertainment, for you and your friends.

I'll leave this post open until midnight, but probably not much later--tomorrow's a work day and this weekend is the Torn World Muse Fusion.

As always, tipping is not required, but is very much appreciated.

Edit: What--only two of you up for the longest night of the year? Or is everyone out partying? I guess I'll leave this open for a few more people.

Second edit: In honor of other time zones, I'll leave this open, but I'm limiting it to DianaVilliers, Stonetalker (who somehow found an old card draw post to comment on this morning) and no more than five other people. Thanks to everyone who stopped by so far!

And...DONE. 'Til next time. Thank you for stopping by.

I hope to see you all at the Muse Fusion this weekend! [livejournal.com profile] torn_world

So, we have a beautiful full moon overhead, and the Torn World Muse Fusion is ongoing. I really was too tired for it last night, though I started a story which I'm continuing today.

The computer is still being slow and cranky; it shut down from overheating again last night; luckily none of the writing was lost, though a lot of time was lost fiddling with the external fans to get cat hair out of them and then getting the computer started up again. I'm dreading hitting the summer heat if I can't get a new computer by then, and the desktop computer is still out with a persistent virus.

In work news, I've hit the end of my full-time temp work, and have only one week of half-time work left. Unless something happens very suddenly on that front, I'll be unemployed again by next weekend.

In the meantime, it's Equinox, which means it's time for me to do readings, but there's no way I can do them and the Muse Fusion at the same time. So, I offer a poll:

[Poll #1719861]In the meantime, the story I'm working on for the Muse Fusion is Dragon Oak, and is about Rai-Kunabei, who some of you have met during my readings.  I think it will be around 3,000 words when I'm done, and can be sponsored for a total of $30 (from one or a group of sponsors).  After that, I'm going to tackle the question of what it's like to be near a border when two time-shads fuse back together.

And if you stop by the Muse Fusion and leave a question or prompt, I'll have some more writing to do tonight or tomorrow!  If I use your propt or answer your question, you get a private peek at what I create even it's not sponsored.

Happy Spring, everyone!

A friend noted that my reading (divination) for her in these virtual pages was helpful, so she wasn’t surprised that my in-person (authorial) reading of two poems and a story at a convention went over well.

This led to a moment of cognitive dissonance for me, since (in my own wetware, at least) divinatory/inspirational readings are filed in some very different category than authorial readings.

I suppose you could call them both a form of performance art, and not totally unrelated, especially if you look at the immersive story readings I’ve been doing here. But the back of my brain keeps going “but—but—but!”

So, what do you folks think? Are readings and readings related? How? Why? Should they be?

These cards are beautiful!  And, like all the cards I like best, the minor arcana is just as full of pictorial imagery as the majors.

Look at the King of Wands.  and Judgment (oooh, butterflies), and the Nine of Swords, and...well, go look at all of them!

I don't even know which ones would be my favorites, if I spent some time with this deck.  But I don't need to hold a deck in my hand to know this deck would speak clearly to me in readings.

There's even a "happy squirrel" bonus card--a silliness that makes me smile, cold house or no.

Did I tell you how much my niece, Spooky, liked borrowing my MTG squirrels deck and defeating a deadly dragons deck?  I would SO definitely use that squirrel card as a squirrel token, if I didn't just shuffle it into the deck to do readings.

ETA:  Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] miintikwa for linking me to these.

Edit--I have work tomorrow, and NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow (technically, started at midnight) so I'd better close this to new requests. I'll do this again, though, so if you missed it this time, look for it to happen again in December.

Anyone who already left a request, I'll respond soon, most likely tomorrow night. Thanks for stopping by!

I haven't done one of these before, here in LJ-land. But I really enjoy them when other people do them.

Of course, the usual disclaimers apply -- a card reading can't substitute for professional advice. If you need a doctor or lawyer or financial planner, etc., that's not me. If I can provide some entertainment, or help you get in touch with your own higher power(s) or inner muse(s), on the other hand, I'm glad to be of service.

One of the things I've thought was great about many of these readings is that I get to glimpse different ways of doing readings, people's individual decks, or stone readings, and so on. So I'm bringing a unique "deck" to this reading--one I created for Torn World, as well as some more conventional cards.

One interesting feature of Torn World that isn't really visible in the stories is that there are three classes of noun--natural, technological, and abstract. Language shapes how people think; I suspect that having three classes of things will have significant effects on their culture; one of the things I wanted to do with this divination "deck" (the Kuleilyi actually place the images on metal disks, because metal and sounds are important to their religion/magic system); only children and apprentices work with paper or wooden copies). The specifics of the divination disks are still being reviewed by the canon board, so this is a sneak-peek for my friends, old and new.

So, anyway, THE RULES: You can leave a question or not, as you choose. The question can be for you, personally, for a creative endeavor, for a fictional character in a work in progress, or a request for inspiration. The default, if you don't specify, will be a three-card Torn World reading, much as Bai-Kunabei might give if you were to get a reading from her. Alternatively, you can ask for a one card reading from the Daughters of the Moon Tarot, or the Shapeshifter's Tarot.  A final option is to ask for a Guide from the combined deck I made out of  Susan Seddon Boulet's Goddesses and Animal Spirits.

Payment:  No payment is necessary, but this does take time and energy.  Any tips will be gratefully appreciated and applied to the "Get a Laptop that doesn't crash when it overheats" fund, since even with the little fan-table underneath, this laptop has crashed in the middle of me trying to write twice this week.

Time period:  this being the first time I've done this here, I don't know what to expect.  My current plan is to leave the post open for requests until at least midnight, but if the response gets overwhelming, I may close it sooner.  I will edit the post (in nice bold letters at the top) when I close to new requests.  If you get your request in by closing, I'll do a reading, either today or soon.
