Dandelyon's New Year One Card Draw
Jan. 6th, 2022 12:49 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Well, yesterday was frustrating. It took the cable guy a lot longer than expected to change things out, and then we ended up with a new router too, so I had to figure out how to reset the password and tell all the devices in our world how to connect to the new internet source. But enough of that.
It's been too long, and I want to do readings for people!
As always, new friends and old are very welcome.About the readings,
You can simply ask for a single card (with the usual option, for people who tip, to ask for a clarifying card if something isn't clear). The guitar case below is my personal PayPal link, featuring my own artwork, which still inspires me even though it isn't Tarot-related.
I am also offering a five-card reading for $25, or if you want a larger reading we can discuss costs. A signal boost for readings or for the Patereon will allow you to ask for a clarification card on some part of this reading, if you have a question after reading the reading.
Regardless of the length of the reading, you may ask about real life or a creative project, even for a character you play in a game. I can draw a card for you to meditate on, one to represent the Guide you need right now, or to get you unstuck. I can draw a card for your protagonist or villain, can draw a card or cards for you to use as writing or art prompts, and I can modify a more-traditional five-card spread into a prompt for a story focusing on plot or characters or a little of both. Let me know if you have any particular request.
For free one card readings, you can pick from my decks, including the Brian Froud's Faeries Oracle, the Daughters of the Moon Tarot (one of the round decks), or the Shapeshifter Tarot. If you want a Guide to companion you in the new year or the holidays, the Susan Seddon Boulet or Fairies Oracle both work well. If you don't pick a deck, I might pick from any of the decks available to me. I do have a lot of other decks, so any deck I've read from before is available if you tip.
The first card is free (though tips are always appreciated, and especially right now as buying a new boiler broke my budget). However, I understand all too well that when people don't have cash or spoons that is generally when they most need inspiration. Don't be afraid to ask for a card if you can't tip.
When you tip, it's helpful to me for you to mention it here so I can connect your Paypal information with your request. Tips should be at least $2 (Paypal charges fees). If Paypal doesn't work for you, drop me a message and we'll work something out. (Hopefully the Guitar Case below will still properly link to Paypal.)
I will reply to all requests here unless a request arrives after I edit the post to declare the draw closed. I intend to leave it open for several days at least, but in the unlikely event that I get more requests than I can easily handle, I will officially close it.
Thank you, Blessed Be, and may the new year be low-stress, productive, healthy, and joyful!
Status: Open!
As always, while I work hard to offer insight and inspiration, all I can legally promise is entertainment. See my "Dandelyon's Readings" page if you have questions.

Date: 2022-01-06 10:52 am (UTC)May I have a five card reading?
I have no particular preference for which deck, and after the last two years I am hoping for a little boost to keep me writing the story I'm working on now and to go back and pick up a few things that got knocked around in events and effects of everything that's been going on.
A Creative Spring
Date: 2022-01-06 09:06 pm (UTC)For you I chose the Daughters of the Moon Tarot
First I drew the Seven of Flames, subtitled Victory. The image is three women on galloping horses, bright flames in their hands. There is a sun or very red moon overhead, and lightning in the distance. It appears to be night, and there is dark soil or dark water under the horses' hooves. This is a round deck, but the card is nearly upright. You are in better physical circumstances for your creative work than you have been, even if all isn't settled. The fire you need is in your hands and the hands of those who support you. You have the energy to keep moving. This card represents a goal achieved through skill, hard work, gentleness, and cooperation.
The second card is Isis, the Priestess. She is listing to the side a little, suggesting that mentally you're tired or feeling a bit wobbly as you move forward. But the Priestess is strong. She knows how to use ritual to settle her mind and prepare for a task, and she knows how to look within and find her higher self. You have these skills, even if you feel wobbly right now.
The third card, representing the tools or skills you will need, whether you have them at hand or need to develop or acquire them, is the Eight of Flames, subtitled Burnout. The image shows a line of flames in the foreground, with an already burned area between the active flames and the bright green forest not so far away. The card is almost completely reversed, suggesting that you are coming out of a time of burnout. Burnout comes from over commitment or from having things happen that leave you with less resources or time than you thought you'd have when you made the commitment. I would expect the skills you need are recognizing your limits, adjusting your workload as necessary when things change, and figuring out how to put a firebreak between your creative forest and the flames when that is needed.
The fourth card represents the unexpected, and it is the major arcana card titled, in this deck, Opression. The image shows a person buried in stones in the foreground, a canid of some sort howling just behind, and some buildings engulfed in flames just behind. It is on its side, which suggests that whatever might show up to limit, block, or stagnate you can be turned away, cast off, or transformed. I'd say the message here is to keep your eyes open and take action promptly if stuff happens, before it gets you mired or stuck.
Finally, the heart of the matter is the Maiden of Pentacles, subtitled Lada. Th image is a dancing woman with a decorated tree branch in one hand and a basket in the other. There are birds, a doe, and a rabbit and lots of flowers. Lada is a Slavic goddess of spring. She landed upside down, perhaps signifying that you are wanting to bring things forward from your past that you value. There's nothing wrong with that, but there's also nothing wrong with letting those things transform to suit your new circumstances or act as the seed of new things. The return of old riches is just as much a part of her power as is the birth and growth of new things. But whatever you choose, the power of Spring, of growth and joy and good fortune and success is at the heart of what you are wanting to do. If you're feeling discouraged, perhaps putting a few real or symbolic flowers in your workspace will help keep you centered and focused and creating.
There's a lot of flame in this reading. I suggest you remember that in the natural world, fire clears away old, dead brush and provides nutrients and space for new growth. Just don't let the fires get out of hand.

Date: 2022-01-06 04:25 pm (UTC)Creative, Emotional Magic
Date: 2022-01-07 01:50 am (UTC)For your physical circumstances, I drew Reversal, reversed. I find it interesting that this card is all about one's inner landscape, and yet it shows up in the spot designated for the opposite. The book says the womon is suspended in time, undergoing inner metamorphosis. The image is of a woman hanging from a tree branch over water, with her fingertips and long hair in the water. Reversed, it could mean that the changes you need are being resisted or that you are not taking the time you need to listen to yourself and make the changes you need. Remember, rest is required. Meditation may be helpful, or even just reminding yourself that slow changes are often more lasting changes.
The next card in your reading is the previous card in the major arcana, Maat. The image is a seated woman holding an ankh in one hand and scales in the other. She is seated in front of a mandala, which is in front of the rising sun. Eyes smile in front of the sun, and the sun's rays radiate power, warmth and light. Maat is all about justice and fairness, about cause and effect, about accountability and karma. She also embodies the virtues of kindness, love, and cooperation.
The third card is the six of cups, subtitled Compassion. The image is six women on a beach, one prone and being tended to by the others. This is a deck that pictures women as the default human, so the fact that it's women here is probably not significant, but the fact that a person in need is being offered care by her companions is. The beach is rolling in, with a cup on each wave and a cup in the distressed woman's hand. The tool that is needed is, somewhat obviously, compassion.
The fourth card, which symbolizes the unexpected, is the Mother of Cups, Nammu. The image is a voluptuous mermaid, holding a cup which is tipped to allow water to flow outward, filling the oceans. She is surrounded by dolphins playing and a whale is breaching behind her. She is a pleasure loving, laughing goddess of the sea, who brings the fullness of emotions, love and laughter. I don't see what is unexpected about this in your writing, so perhaps the card is there to help you deal with the unexpected in your personal life, especially in dealings with things having to do with your own childhood or your dealings with children. Or perhaps it is the child within yourself that will give you the key to solving unexpected difficulties in writing or in life.
And finally, the heart of the matter is the witch. Dressed in a purple robe and standing in the forest under a crescent moon, the witch stirs her cauldron, holding her wand aloft in a blaze of light. Flames leap around the cauldron, which is filled with water, or perhaps something that just looks like water but is more magical. Her cat looks on, as does an owl in its nest in a tree, and there are mushrooms and other tiny worlds scattered under the trees. I think in this reading, this is you, the person you have chosen to be, a force of concentration, focus, and creativity. You may feel off-kilter from time to time, but you have your tools all at hand, and you are the heart of all the worlds you create and share.

Date: 2022-01-06 05:59 pm (UTC)I'd like to get a five card reading, please, using any deck except the faeries. Focus on romance and breaking out of loneliness in the new year.
Abundances in the Heart
Date: 2022-01-07 04:07 am (UTC)Your first card, symbolizing your physical or practical circumstances, is Burnout tilted well on its side. The image shows a line of flames barred from reaching th forest and mountains by either a deliberate firebreak or simply the area that's been cleansed by the flame already. This is a card about being aware of your limits, and possibly having pushed past them too many times. You don't have to be superwoman! Plant some seeds and call down the rain or dig out the hose, and take care of yourself and your space. The ground after a fire is very fertile, and is definitely ready for a change, though that growth takes time.
Your second card, symbolizing where you are emotionally and mentally, is the Mother of Flames (Leo), subtitled Chantico. Chantico is an Aztec goddess of both volcano and hearth, the heat of the home that nourishes. The image is a native woman making bread in a dome-shaped earth oven, with a child eating bread in front of her table. The flames in the image are carefully contained, cooking the bread as she works. The card is tilted a little, so I'd guess your mental and/or emotional hearthfires are facing some difficulties, but it's still a good, strong card showing you have resources available.
The third card, which represents the tools or skills you will need, whether you have them already in some measure or need to learn them, is the 9 of Pentacles, subtitled Malama. It shows an ample woman sitting by her garden under a tree, holding a big gourd. She has strings of herbs around her neck and flowers in her hair. This card asks you to look at where the energy that sustains you is coming from, and make sure that cycle is as healthy and reflective of your values as possible. Your work should not only nourish you individually but be at least a potential source of inspiration for your community. This card landed straight upright, so I expect you have the skills you need, or at least the seeds of them.
The next card is the Crone of Pentacles, subtitled Pasowee, Buffalo woman, which shows an older woman and a younger one setting up a teepee in the snow. If I remember correctly, this card has shown up for you before. Today it shows up as the card representing the unexpected, and it shows up slightly tilted. Perhaps some tradition or teaching will unexpectedly prove to be not quite right for your situation? Or maybe it's that passed-on wisdom that will aid you when an unexpected difficulty or opportunity appears. Or maybe it's as simple as being willing to reach out to your mentors for babysitting once in a while, to give yourself the opportunity to be out in the world where unexpected encounters can happen.
And then finally the heart of the matter. The first thing I saw when I pulled the card for this spot was Amaterasu, the Sun, but then I realized I held two cards not one. The other is the Four of Cups, Sorrow. In the one we have people dancing in the bright light of a benevolent sun, with flowers all around, and in the other there is a weeping moon over a mourning woman, three of whose cups have spilled, flooding half the card. Her fourth cup is behind her, full to overflowing, but neglected. Wow, together the imagery is so powerful, speaking of where you've been and where you want to go, of an abundance of emotional energy that you have to share.
It looks to me like you have been working on your life to bring yourself to where you are ready to find that companionship you are seeking, and you just need to get yourself out in the world, whether virtually or in meatspace, to find kindred souls. Perhaps the Nine of Pentacles was speaking of finding ways to meet people safely, being respectful of their safety and the safety of you and your family, in this currently dangerous world. And maybe the cards will give you hints I didn't see, about where to look for the kind of friends that could lead to the romance and companionship you need.
Good luck, my friend. It's hard to have your heart in such very different places at the same time. I really think the juxtaposition of those two images at the end is the main message here, and the other cards are just the supporting cast.
Re: Abundances in the Heart
Date: 2022-01-08 05:14 am (UTC)Lot of fire in there. And the heart draw - yep. Not news, but confirmation.
I don't remember Buffalo Woman showing up before and couldn't find any record of it. I do have an older mentor-friend who is going through some trouble and would fit the role. (Not local though. I wish.)
But the part that's most mysterious to me is Malama. What it might mean to do work that inspires a community. (Who, and where???)
May I have a clarifying card for that part of the reading in return for the signal boost?
Re: Abundances in the Heart
Date: 2022-01-08 05:31 pm (UTC)And of course you can have a clarifying card. :)
So, Malama: Before I draw your card, I will note that community can be near or far, large or small. In the most intimate sense, a family is a community. Our internet friends are a bigger community. So are our physical neighbors or voting district. But let's see what insight the cards offer:
The Dreamer
The image is a woman kneeling by a stream or river, her horse calmly cropping the grass behind her foot. She has dipped her finger in the water, and is looking at the ripples. It is sunset or sunrise, a liminal time as well as one when many people take the chance to look around them and enjoy the beauty of life. Liminal times are powerful, a moment when possibilities open because you're no longer only what you were and are not yet what you will be.
There are a few trees behind her and a mountain (or perhaps a volcano, continuing the fire theme) in the distance. The Dreamer is analogous to the Fool in many other decks, a free spirit about to head off on some new adventure, taking a step into new territory, and perhaps not yet aware of the tools she has at hand for the journey. It is a card of self-love, and symbolizes trust or faith in your higher self. This card came out perfectly upright, just like the card it is clarifying.
I'm not sure this clarifies anything, except as a reassurance that as you start on this thing that feels new to you, whatever it is, you have what you need for success. (Hmm...It occurs to me to mention a thing that I heard recently here--failure is not the opposite of success: failing, learning from the experience, and trying again is a vital part of success. Nobody learns to walk without falling down a few (or a lot) of times, after all.)
Does that help?
Re: Abundances in the Heart
Date: 2022-01-11 03:24 am (UTC)Gah. Yeah that is encouraging but I suspect it's a bigger question than can be contained within the scope of the reading.
The bit in the reading about looking for where the energy that sustains you is coming from and making sure it reflects your values rings true. So does the bit about falling down a lot while learning to walk.

Re: Card, please!
Date: 2022-01-07 05:27 am (UTC)You're welcome for the tip. Hope it helps repair the hole blown in your budget by the boiler. Was there a clarifying card?
Re: Card, please!
Date: 2022-01-07 09:49 am (UTC)Re: Card, please!
Date: 2022-01-07 05:28 pm (UTC)Seeker of Fire
Date: 2022-01-07 09:28 pm (UTC)OK, let's see...
So, I was shuffling still, and this car jumped out. The seeker is pictured as a leaping centaur, arms upstretched. Below him are three sunflowers and the image behind him is, I would guess, his face, where he has feathers as well as hair. Or maybe that's the centaur's guardian? Hard to be sure. The whole card is done in fire colors, mostly yellow and orange. The eye of the figure behind the centaur is drawing my attention. It is open and looking forward, a nice clear gray. This deck equates the fire element with swords, which I always connect with the intellect, though fire speaks to me of passion and energy. Fire, used wisely, can also be the ability to remove things that are no longer needed or are in the way of new growth, and ashes are good fertilizer. Overall, the card has a joyful aspect, and shows both movement and alertness. I think it speaks well of your ability to find what you seek, or at least to identify the change you are sensing and to use that change to leap into the future.

Date: 2022-01-10 05:57 am (UTC)The Well
Date: 2022-01-11 11:08 am (UTC)The first thought that came to me after drawing this card is that a well has gone dry, but while that could very well be a part of the message of this card, there's a lot more to think about here. For instance, it's pretty awkward trying to walk on one's wings. Are you using your skills and resources appropriately?
Something important is blocked, or at least is not flowing as it ought to. I get the sense that this is an internal issue more than an external one. Listen to your feelings, pay attention to your hunches, and remember that playing is not just goofing off. Indeed, it might not be goofing off at all, but a way to relax, de-stress, and learn new skills.
Consider, what wells are you (metaphorically) drawing from this year? Are there things you can do to replenish them or unblock them? If one or more of them is a shared resource, are you doing what you can to ensure that both you and the others using the resource can share it appropriately?
The one of any suit generally symbolizes an abundance in that area or aspect of life. Reversed might mean a shortage, but the feel I get is more that access to it is impeded or that it is not being distributed fairly and with kindness, and that, in this case, the issue can be substantially improved, if you choose to do the work.
Re: The Well
Date: 2022-01-11 08:54 pm (UTC)This makes the most sense to me. I've definitely felt it for the past month or so. Problem is, I don't know what it is!
Hmmm... 3 has never been one of "my" numbers. Will have to ponder on this. But since Sept, there are 3 adults in my home: me, my partner (who would probably fill the "male" part), and my mom.
The "kindness" part resonates more with me too. Again, if I can figure out WHAT is blocked (mentally, emotionally, physically) then maybe I can figure out how to fix it.
Thanks! Paypal and I are having an argument. I will definitely send you something shortly.
Re: The Well
Date: 2022-01-12 10:40 am (UTC)You can send a direct message to work out details if you want to try a different way of tipping instead of paypal. :)
If you tip, you're entitled to a clarification card, to try to help you identify exactly what is being blocked (or how to fix it, if now that you're watching for it, you can see where the problem is). Let me know.
Re: The Well
Date: 2022-01-12 06:00 pm (UTC)Thanks!!!!
Re: The Well: The Sacred Flame
Date: 2022-01-12 07:14 pm (UTC)She is lit very brightly by the lightning, and her tree is outlined as well, so the trunk, branches, and twigs glow like the are a web of tiny lightning strikes. I think this card represents whatever thing(s) you hold most sacred, be it deity or honor or kindness, the connection to your loved ones, or art or doing good in the world. A cow could represent homey things, or could be a connection to food or even to the outdoor world.
You should listen to your intuition on how to interpret this card, more than my words, because this is about your most essential, sacred self. Perhaps spend some time in meditation, reconnecting with your own true, best center. Or perhaps you need time connecting with the people in your life that's not filled with exterior distractions, so you can hear and see each other clearly.
Given how striking and powerful an image I drew for you, it might be that this is a thing that you have been avoiding looking at, fearing it heralds some disaster, but the image is not at all an image of destruction, it is more an affirmation and perhaps a transformation. Living is changing, slow or fast, and change is always harder when you fight it and easier when you prepare for it with kindness aforethought.
I still have no idea what is blocked in your life, but the details are really none of my business, so that feels OK to me. Hopefully after reading this, or after grounding and centering and opening yourself to seeing what's sacred to you, you will see it as clear and vivid as a lightning strike.

Date: 2022-01-17 02:40 am (UTC)And I do apologize that I didn't see this request until now.
Five of Cups - The Storm
Date: 2022-01-17 02:56 am (UTC)The image is five cups in a thunderstorm. Four of the cups are awash in the water, the fifth is perched on a rock, just barely out of the water. There is lightning in the distance, and the trees on the beach are swaying in a very high wind.
This card represents a storm of fear, anxiety, and high emotions. There is a chance that the person(s) caught in the storm had a hand in its making and need to face that fact. They need to marshall their forces, call in their allies, and move past their prior limits.
It is also possible that the fear of rocking the boat has the person caught in the storm frozen and unable to take action.
The card could represent a literal storm in the fictional world, or just the tangle of emotions that needs to be faced and overcome in the next part of the story. Let the lightning strike and the wind blow, stories need a strong emotional climax to test the protagonist(s) and show their mettle, and for the readers to feel they earned whatever they gain
Even if you are in the middle of this project, so this is not the final climax, it's time for the wind and waves to lay bare the heart of the story, and for the protagonist(s) to confront their challenges as boldly as they are, at this stage of the story, able.
Re: Five of Cups - The Storm
Date: 2022-01-19 03:30 am (UTC)Now to figure out how to sort out my brains. I'm not very skilled at getting into suitable headspaces on semi-demand.
Thank you!
Re: Five of Cups - The Storm
Date: 2022-01-19 03:35 am (UTC)Given this particular card, might finding a you-tube video of a thunderstorm, with or without other music, help get you in the right mindset?
Also, remember that once you get something written, you can fix it or decide it's not fixable and try again, but with more insight about what you want it to be.
