Miintikwa is doing a one-card-draw today.
I got mine: "For you, also the High Priestess- initiating you into her secrets, showing you the path into the temple, the hidden curtain into the inner sanctum. Follow your intuition and let your instincts guide you as you transition."

Seems like a good card, whether it's for my job search, my money woes, or my creative endeavors!

I wanted to write something specific for Talk Like A Pirate Day, but I'm tired tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

The next chapter of Fireborn is not pirate-related, but could be ready tomorrow, depending on how much time I can spend on the computer, and how much is busy interacting with family, supervising homework, or whatever else needs doing.

In the meantime, a friend of mine is writing a pirate story.   I thought some of you might want to check it out, it being an auspicious day for the fun and piratical.

It's 2040 and the three oceans—Pasifika, Atalantik and Indi'O—are controlled by sky-pirates. Lawless, corrupt, the oceans’ flying cities are also home to those criminals who have been exiled forever from the mainlands.

Nineteen-year-old Bouboucar Bottle has come to Pasifika with her friend Leula to seek her fortune (and whatever else she can get). In her travels through Pasifika, Boo meets empaths and hitmen, ex-priests and artificial intelligences, exiled biochemists and a bona fide pirate princess.

Boo isn’t clever, or beautiful, or talented, or any of the things heroes (or villains) should be. But she does have a gift: she can see the potential of others.

It’s more useful than you might expect.

[livejournal.com profile] djinni  (formerly known on LJ as ninjahijinx) periodically does a "free icon" day, with an open paypal button for donations, and a limit as to how many free drawings he will do unless a specific goal is reached.  Recently, he offered to do an icon or a dragon, and if you wanted a dragon, you gave him three words as a prompt.  The prompts for this dragon were storm, rage, and rainbow.  Isn't it cool?

Oh, and he also did my musical kitty icon.

He's also doing a Dracula comic, and periodically shares other art on his LJ.  Go check him out!

Cool Birthday Project

[livejournal.com profile] xjenavivex has a really cool birthday request -- she's asking her friends to check out other friends who are artists, writers, poets, photographers, and the like. As a result, she's compiling a list of really cool people, some known pretty well here on LJ (such as Seanan McGuire) and others who should become much more well-known (like [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar ).

Her initial post is at: http://xjenavivex.livejournal.com/346086.html, though she expects to be updating her list of cool creative people to check out throughout the month of August.

What a cool idea! I should do this too--no, wait, my birthday is also in August.

Redundancy is sometimes useful, but one source in a month of friends-of-friends recommendations seems to be quite sufficient. So instead, I'll pimp her efforts. You should go check this out. There's enough links that everyone should be able to find something they enjoy.

Welcomes

Welcome to new friends, [info]flutterbychild [info]jdoggiedogg [info]upstart_crow [info]m_stiefvater [info]morvashepley [info]mount_oregano [info]agrbk [info]red_trillium [info]jolantru [info]patesden [info]sythyry [info]miintikwa and [livejournal.com profile] xjenavivex

Wow, I guess it's been too long since I did a welcome post! And if I missed anyone, welcome to you too!

Garden Update

As to the garden, I promised a picture or two of the mulberry tree. I'm not particularly satisfied with the pictures; somehow it was easier to see the tree that shall be in the twilight. Perhaps that was inevitable; twilight is a good time for dreams, after all. But I promised.
