You can read the prompts so far, and leave prompts on the theme of wildlife here:

And here are a couple of the poems she's written so far today:

The Death Tenders

Impressions of the North (A Torn World poem)

Ysabet also has an epic poem, and a new verse is revealed every time someone links to her fishbowl or poems.  The linkback post is here.

The Rose and Bay Awards were created to honor excellence in crowd-funded projects. The following post includes more information about the awards and links to the pages where you can nominate your favorites: http://ysabetwordsmith.livejournal.com/2139030.html

I am very pleased to see that Ellen Million's <LJ user="ellenmillion">'s Sketchfest has been nominated in the Art category, and [personal profile] filkertom  <LJ user="FilkerTom"> has been nominated for his music.  There are other projects I'm very fond of that have been nominated, including [personal profile] wrenstarling 's Bird Oracle readings.

The primary crowdfunding projects I participated in during 2011 were Dandelyon's Card Draws and Torn World,  If you have enjoyed either or both projects, please consider nominating them.  If there are projects I'm not aware of, I hope you'll nominate them too!

But you have to act fast--nominations are only open until tomorrow evening--they closed before midnight Central Standard Time last year; I think the administrator for that category was on Eastern Time. I have no idea where the administrators for the different categories live this year.

The Crowdfunding Community is hosting a Creative Jam--people leave prompts, and people of all skill levels are welcome to stop by and use those prompts to create something--anything. Sketches, paintings, poetry, songs, stories, pottery, whatever.

Please stop by and leave some prompts. Each participating creator decides how and whether to share their work, but some of us privately share with the prompter first, regardless of what else we do.

Also, you are welcome to use any of the prompts to create something. As a creator, you can choose whether and how to share their work--you can share for free, sell your work, offer to publish your work for a sponsorship or even set it aside to submit in the traditional fashion.

Whether making things is work or play (or a bit of both) for you, why don't you stop by?

In other news, My Angel's feeling miserable again today; the antibiotics that seemed to be working so well yesterday aren't doing such a good job today. I hope I'll be able to participate in the jam, instead of heading back to Urgent Care with her.

So, the fan GOH at Windycon decided to bring a guest, a harpist who had never been to a filk.

Such things happen, you say, and of course that's true.

But go thou and look at her Kickstarter campaign video--she made this and started raising money to make cool filk videos before ever going to a science fiction convention: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1242097495/erin-hill-the-sci-fi-harp-girl-makes-a-music-video

I got to be part of her first filk ever!  Thanks, Hugh!

Go, check her out, regardless of whether you have money to support her efforts.

I peeked in on the Muse Fusion last night, and left a few prompts, but I was awfully tired from my work week. I didn't get a story finished. However, I got a start on a new story about the characters in So Many, Many Frogs.

You are all welcome to stop by [livejournal.com profile] torn_world and leave us some prompts too!

I took a couple of minutes this morning to try to make one of those cool fund-raising tickers. I didn't figure it all out (how the heck do you get a cool background, for instance? Or a cool end-post for your goal?) but eventually decided I was wasting writing time. However, here's my initial effort:

If I make the first goal today, I'll set a new one for the rest of the weekend (and again, if necessary)--if I do, any suggestions as to what you'd like to see in addition to an extra free poem or drabble? (And where should I go out to dinner?)

If you're inclined to sponsor my work this weekend, I'll update the ticker. You can sponsor a particular piece or put funds into a general fund. I'll post a poll so everyone can vote as to what gets sponsored with the general fund.

But now, back to Lizard, Lizard.

wyld_dandelyon: A happily sleeping purple, green & gold dragon (sleeping dragon by Djinni)
I've been writing in between necessary tasks around the house, but the stories I'm working on are resisting quick completion.  Sometimes that's a good sign, that I'm writing something at the edges of my skills, or that needs deep thought.  This weekend, I think it's just a sign that I'm distracted by mundane stuff like having a half-painted porch and weeds the City demands I mow down (and rain, which makes mowing with an electric lawn mower problematic).

But I do have something to share.  This is from a photo prompt by [livejournal.com profile] red_trilliumhttp://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2016062480012303101Wocvlk

An Irfai Lullabye
a Torn World poem by Deirdre M. Murphy

The heroes in the Irfai songs
Sailed in boats with monster heads
Guarding to the front and rear
Like our infant sailor-beds

Each tiny cradle, built so tight
That it can float, and lull the child
While Momma works and catches food
And Poppa hunts the monsters wild

Sleep little babe, upon the waves
And dream of Death, Snagtooth and Whale
Dying on your brave harpoon
Someday the bards will sing your tale

Historical note: The Irfai tales are often exaggerated; the tales talk of tall ships with extravagantly-carved figureheads at both ends of the boats; in reality, the monster heads on traditional Irfai ships were mostly painted on, and sometimes were no more than painted eyes. However, intricately-carved cradle-boats are used in the modern day by well-off Irfai, and both intricately-carved, well-made cradle boats and cheaper (and often leaky) knock-offs are sold to tourists.

Go leave her some prompts, and then watch her blog for poetry. Her freebie poem is already up, and sponsored poems will show up for the next couple of days. (If she uses your prompt, she'll give you a private peek at the poem even if it's not sponsored.)

The main thing that stalled me in this story was getting a temp job that just didn't leave me with energy to do much, but that was only part of the problem. I probably could have kept things moving forward if I'd known where the story was going. Now I have a clear idea, but I need a villain. So, I'm taking prompts for villains. Please leave suggestions in the comments![Poll #1768742]I look forward to reading your suggestions!  (If anyone suggests someone else in comments, feel free to add votes in comments.)

Thanks!

P.S.  For my new friends, the story in question starts here:  Feather-Blessed

You can now see the sketch [personal profile] meeks  did of "Feather-Blessed" inspired by my stories.  I'm so excited!  I want to ask each of you to go look and comment, so she will refine the sketch.  If enough people comment and/or tip, she will finish the drawing, either in sepia or in full color.

In addition, for each level of advancement that you sponsor for her to complete, I will endeavor to continue Grace and Stella's story.  The story starts here: http://wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com/88168.html  and there are links at the bottom of each segment to the next one.

If you want to see how your comments and tips fund more work on her drawings, [personal profile] meeks  explains that here:  http://meeksp.livejournal.com/13152.html  You can also suggest other stories for her to sketch from.  I hear that if she gets two new participants by Monday, people get to vote on an archive sketch to refine further. So you're welcome to boost the signal to online writers you know who haven't prompted for Story Sketches yet.

We both look forward to hearing from you!

Edit--Err...I'm tireder than I thought!  I forgot to link you to the sketch!  Sorry about that.  Here it is:

OK, LJ is back working pretty well again, and I have no new requests. This card draw is officially CLOSED. Thank you to everyone who participated! Well, over in my poll on LJ, people were about evenly split between wanting weekend readings and wanting Lammas readings, so I'm going to open the post now. If you would prefer a card drawn on Lammas, feel free to comment today and include that as part of your request. There's no reason I have to do the readings in the order they're requested, after all.

Rules: (do I need rules?)

I'm posting this on DreamWidth this time because the LJ site warns it is having issues, especially with posting longer things. I don't know if that includes posting responses to comments in long threads or not, but I strongly encourage you to leave your request at DreamWidth, even if this cross-posts successfully. I will answer any requests that successfully post over on LiveJournal, however, assuming my response will post.

I'll be doing readings on and off in between cleaning house and packing for MuseCon. If you want to know a little more about my readings, I have a FAQ post here: http://wyld-dandelyon.livejournal.com/153236.html I will reiterate that while I hope I can offer entertainment, inspiration and insight, and I will do my best on your behalf, readings do not and cannot substitute for seeking the advice and help of a professional of any sort. If you need one, please go find one you can trust.

Please leave me a question, if you have one, and let me know which type of reading you want. I am always open to requests about creative ventures, including in-character requests, as well as the more normal sort.
  • I am, as always, offering Torn World disk readings, written as if you visited Rai-Kunabei as a traveler in her world. If you're curious about Torn World and want a peek at one corner of that complex world, you're welcome to a Torn World reading.
  • I can draw you a Guide from my combined Susan Seddon Boulet Goddess and Animal Spirit art cards--this was the most popular deck in my poll.
  • I can draw you a card from the Fantasy Tarot, which was the second most popular vote in the poll.
  • For the very first time, I'll do a drawing from my not-runes--complete with a picture, if my elderly cell phone and limited HTML will cooperate. (I need to properly name these...suggestions welcome, once people see them in action).
  • If someone has a particular favorite among my other decks, I'm also willing to pull one of them out for a reading.
Tips are gratefully appreciated. As an incentive, a tip for $10 or more will get you a three-card draw. This is particularly helpful for Rai-Kunabei, who thinks one-card-draws are peculiar and difficult. Her symbolism is based in large part on the structure of her language, in which there are three types of nouns--natural, artificial, and abstract. (There are regular Friday language lessons by [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith over in the <LJ user="Torn_World"> community.)

Signal-boosts are also welcome.

When I'm closed to requests, I will edit this entry, at the top. I will leave this open at least until I get home from work tomorrow, and possibly longer, since I know I have readers in different time-zones.

And Happy Lammas to everyone who celebrates it as such, and also to everyone who doesn't.

Update: Tips so far: $15.00 Note for my LJ friends: Although crossposting is working, the DreamWidth link isn't, but you can find me there as Wyld_Dandelyon, just like at LJ.

I'm planning on doing a card draw very soon--but before I try to give you some inspiration thereby, I hope you'll give me some advice.

Or at least let me know when you'd like to see the draw happen, and which of my decks you'd like to see.
