A quick progress peek and thoughts on branding

I've spent a lot of time painting, as you can see. I thought I would make the piping light blue, or maybe purple, but several test spots led me to deciding on gold, both for the piping and for the straps. The other colors just weren't giving enough contrast.

Also, as you can see, I have decided on a more even green, and made it brighter too. The camo look didn't do it for me.

Really, that's a lot of what you do when you're making something--try stuff and evaluate. Then edit, to make it better, more what you want.

While painting I have been thinking about branding--in a lot of ways, it's like your style, your aesthetic, at least for the parts of you that are publicly attached to your work.

That boring brown wasn't working for me--as an artist (writer/singer/painter/musician/etc) I don't want to be boring, I want to be vibrant, bright and beautiful, joyous and free, and at least to some degree fearless, looking into the hearts of things, and making good stories and songs.

And hopefully adding some beauty, magic, understanding, and inspiration to the world.

Boring just doesn't do that!

The gold piping is a good idea, and you've got a sort of tie-dye radial pattern in the second picture, Perhaps you could use a mix of blues and greens, heighten the contrast and make that look more intentional?

The next layer is to make it a more solid green. I may reinstate the radial pattern, but probably not. I'm really liking the classic look with the more solid green.

I'll also add more gold, in the proper spots. I'm using old paints to make the green, and am already running low and mixing blues and yellow to get more green. But it's good to use the supplies I have; I can go buy more fabric paint if I need to.

And then I'll contemplate whether I will add patches like I always do on my black gig bags, or paint a dragon or something somewhere over the green, or a combination of the two. I've plenty of paints for that, since anything figural would be using the regular acrylics instead of the fabric paints. (The gold is already a regular acrylic, not a fabric one. I have to test to see if it makes the handles and shoulder straps too stiff; if it does I might have to go looking for a really good gold fabric paint. But I don't remember finding good quality metallics in fabric paint when I got all my Deka paints.)

Gosh, I miss the Deka fabric paints. But they stopped importing them years ago!
