A Full Moon Card Draw
Jan. 13th, 2017 01:46 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
With the current state of politics, I'm feeling more need for insight and inspiration than usual, and I'm thinking my friends might also be feeling the same. So I'm going to try to schedule card readings more often this year, hopefully at least once a month at either the full moon or then new (or possibly both).
It's a Full New Moon tonight, so I figure I'll offer to draw cards for a while. I am hoping to send some good energy out into the world, to spark some hope and creativity. You can ask about real life or a creative project, or even a game. I can draw a card for you to meditate on, to represent the Guide you need right now, or to get you unstuck. I can draw a card for a character or can draw a card or cards for you to use as writing or art prompts.
I hope you will stop by my garden. There's still some snow outside, so we'll pass through the frost-covered rose bushes and head inside. I have a little round glass table that's etched with a dragon design; we can sit there by candle light or turn the lava lamps on. You and I can share hot chocolate or tea and chat, and you can get a reading if you would like one. Both new friends and old are welcome.
For a day or two for free one card readings, you can pick from the Brian Froud's Faeries Oracle, my combined Susan Seddon Boulet Animal Spirits and Goddesses cards, or the Shapeshifter Tarot. You can ask a question, ask for a Guide, ask for inspiration, or you can just ask for a card. I don't need to know what your question is, but you are welcome to share it with me if you like.
The first card is free (though tips are always appreciated). Tips also let you ask me to use any of my other decks, to request a private reading, or to draw a clarifying card. If you want a longer reading, send a direct message so we can agree on the type of reading and rate.
Please consider dropping something in the guitar case below. Readings take time and energy, and even though the Milwaukee winter, like everything else, has been affected by global warming, winter heat is pricey and old houses always need repair somewhere or other.
Signal boosts are very much appreciated, and also earn you the right to ask for a clarifying card.
I understand all too well that when people don't have cash or spoons that is generally when they most need inspiration! Don't be afraid to ask for a card if you can't tip.
If you tip, it's helpful to me for you to mention it here so I can connect your paypal information with your request. Tips should be at least $1 (Paypal charges fees). If that doesn't work for you, drop me a message and we'll work something out.
I've written before about why I do readings and some of the decks I use here, feel free to hop over and check me out. I'll wait.
I will reply to all requests. In the highly unlikely event that the number of requests nears my limits, I'll close this card draw by adding a clear note at the top of the post rather than risk leaving anyone without a response. However, I intend to stay open at least through Saturday night, and longer for paid readings since, between the holidays and being in these days of low LJ usage, people may find the post late.
Thank you, and Blessed Be!
As always, these readings are for entertainment and inspiration only. See my "Dandelyon's Readings" page if you have questions.

Date: 2017-01-14 12:37 am (UTC)You may not look like much, but your spirit is strong and bright. Your mouth is open, showing that you have something to say and the courage to say it. But maybe you need a little encouragement to believe that people will listen?
There are some feathers falling from the lion woman's human arm, making me think that there are things you can do or say that only you can, ideas or resources that will drift away in the wind if you do not choose to give them voice.
I don't know if these are things of import to many people or if they are "merely" creative things, but voicing them is important, and you do have the capacity for the bravery you need.

Goddess of Earth
Date: 2017-01-14 12:52 am (UTC)The earth is made of inter-mingled ecosystems, of predators and prey, of different points of view that alternately run together or throw each other into stark contrasts. But all the parts, in balance, are necessary. The hard part is the balance--having the perception to see how it all works and the wisdom to set it right if something has gone wrong. The goddess is up to the task, however, and stands in the center of it all, confident and open-handed.
This card suggests to me that your year will be complex, but if you don't panic, you'll have the resources you need to get through it and to keep your little part of the world in a healthy balance. The fact that she is a rabbit-Goddess suggests you don't need to be predatory or violent, and the flowers flowing from her right hand suggests that sharing joy is as important as the more practical and self-protective things you will need to do.

Date: 2017-01-14 01:16 am (UTC)Taitin the Sylph
Date: 2017-01-14 09:19 am (UTC)As we chatter sleepily, a tiny, bright figure flies between us, scattering a fine, gleaming dust over us. Instantly, we're wide awake, ideas flitting in our minds as brightly (and quickly) as the sylph herself. She pauses on one of the teacups and peruses the boxes. "These are boring!"
I pull out an old craft box and open it to show bottles and baggies of different herbs. "You can mix your own, if you want." I offer her a metal tea ball, though it's larger than her head.
"Oh, this is marvelous!" She takes on large rose petal and places it in one half of the ball, adding a pinch of thyme and a handful of chammomile petals, a fragment of hibiscus petal and some tiny mint leaves and sniffs. "Close--what do you think?" She waves it under our noses and asks what we'd add, then rummages around, adding a bit of this and a bit of that and topping it off with more fairy dust.
I pull out the pottery tea pot my daughter made me. It's low and almost resembles a genie's lamp. Taitin closes the tea ball and places it inside just as the old metal boiling pan starts to whistle. I retrieve the boiling water and pour it into the tea kettle and then rummage around in the kitchen cabinet to find the smallest mug I've got, a souvenir from a holiday dinner with my family.
"Now, then, what were we talking about?" None of us is really sure but in a moment we're talking about everything and nothing, hopping from topic to topic nimbly and naturally. We turn to creative projects and brainstorm for a while, then start to study the different ideas, trying to find the most suitable one for each of us. We voice our opinions freely, feeling safe to change our minds--or not--depending on what we can learn from each other.
Finally, we have tea and cookies, but we keep talking until it's time to move on. Taitin's fairy dust brought energy and creativity and logic, all at once. Before she goes, she gives you a glittering vial, so you will have more when you need it. "Call me any time! This has been fun."

Date: 2017-01-14 02:51 pm (UTC)BTW: checking the Old Farmer's Almanac site regarding this month's Full Moon reminded me that some Native American tribes called it "Wolf Moon" and have a 5 minute clip of wolves howling that had my Arrow-dog entranced. In case you're interested, it's here:

Ishtar, giver of light
Date: 2017-01-14 06:57 pm (UTC)Ishtar is one of the goddesses who descends to the underworld. In her case, it is to retrieve the god of vegetation, Tammuz, and return him to the sunlight, bringing fertility back to the earth. She is also the creator Goddess. She is a powerful, forthright woman, a lawgiver and teacher, the deity of both love and war, a mother and the giver of plenty.
Here is a link to the image on the card: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjG-b_jpsLRAhVHh1QKHeZXAFsQjRwIBw&url=http%3A%2F%2Funmaskingthefeminine.blogspot.com%2F&psig=AFQjCNG6StEyY16jUNnXEWFGjVov7JWxDg&ust=1484506209468799
This is a strong Goddess to be your inspiration at this time, full of creativity and strength.

The Sage
Date: 2017-01-14 07:29 pm (UTC)The Sage's passion is finding wisdom and understanding. He stresses organizing, integrating, and, paradoxically, simplifying your thoughts. It's time for you to look at your story as a whole, to understand it on both the simple and complex levels, to see where it most effectively starts, and what ending will give it the most zing. The Sage is here to help you with all of these things.
The Sage gently presses your writing fingers, blessing them, but also stressing the importance of compassion, both for the work and for the worker.
It's harder, with a longer work, to see it as a whole, unified thing while also seeing and tending to the various parts. In the best stories, the whole is more than just the sum of the parts.
The Sage smiles at you, and reassures you, like the gnome did before, that you can do it.

The Sage, reversed
Date: 2017-01-15 08:49 am (UTC)There's no snow left on the pavement, but a little still lies in puddles and drifts around the rose bushes, and you can look out the window at the garden while I heat the milk. There are little tracks in it, cat and racoon, maybe even a spindly possum paw-print.
After a while, you realize he is sitting out there too, cross-legged, but upside down, sitting "on" the ceiling of the covered part of the porch. At first, you thought he was an abandoned nest, all twigs and dry leaves and fibers, but then he winked at you.
Not all wise men are shamans, and not all shamans are wise, but the Sage is both, seeing into this world and the others. His message is always about wisdom, patience, and hidden knowledge. With him showing up reversed, he is warning that there is some kind of blockage or imbalance--knowledge that could be known but which has not been shared with the people who need it, or perhaps an inability or unwillingness to apply skills or knowledge learned in one setting to a different one, where it is needed now. He also sometimes appears when someone is so certain that they know the answers already that they are not looking for more information.
He invites you to go outside, to walk in the garden, which suddenly has a gate between the roses to a quiet, snow-filled woods. You cannot see the parked cars or the city street any more. "You're welcome to come visit my garden or not, freely," he says in a low, melodious voice. "A different perspective can clear the mind, and I promise to have you back before the chocolate is done."
If you go, the woods are peaceful and beautiful, and you can talk things out with the Sage, get some insight on what's blocking or confusing you, and where to look to discover the things that you don't know yet. And true to his word, you and he are back on the porch, safely back in the mortal world, when I come back from the kitchen with hot chocolate and cookies. He looks hopefully at the mugs, and I head back into the kitchen for another one.
Re: The Sage, reversed
Date: 2017-01-16 03:25 am (UTC)...He looked just like the Hanged Man when I first saw him sitting upside down like that. I think I will go join him indeed.
"It's beautiful out here. I've been thinking about what it might mean that knowledge is blocked. There's one very obvious answer: before I convinced my partner to go to the hospital, he had a bad pain in his leg that had been increasing slowly, but we had no idea what it was or how to help it. Now we've had the doctors' insight, and scans have been done, and the answer and treatment is clear. But that's already happened, and I don't know why your message would be for something in the past.
"It's true, I don't know where to look next. If there is a different perspective, I'm still firmly right side up."
I fall silent and look around through the icy trees.

Date: 2017-01-17 04:02 am (UTC)Re: The Sage, reversed
Date: 2017-01-17 09:48 pm (UTC)You get settled to look out the window, but soon you head outside.
The Sage puts his hand on the ceiling, as if to steady himself, and unfolds downward, as graceful as any gymnast, dropping to the porch gently. It's unclear how he got up there, as there are no footprints in the snow until you and step on the porch, down the steps, and into the woods. Surely, he couldn't have been waiting since before the snow fell?
But then you remember that in the other world, there was no new snow. You're somewhere else now.
Snowflakes fall around you, dancing slowly in a slight breeze. The air is very clear and clean, and your lungs welcome it. A squirrel chatters above you, and the Sage reaches up, somehow not seeming to stretch, and places three nuts in the snow on the branch the squirrel is sitting on. You walk on.
A path appears before you, and you follow it into a clearing where She of the Cruach sits. Himself stands behind her. It is hard to see She at first; she is more glow than physical form. But as the snowflakes fall on her, and are caught in the warm energy without melting, you start to see a motherly figure and a compassionate smile. Himself has stars in his hair, or perhaps they are just extra-glowy snowflakes.
In his presence, you feel more yourself than you have in a while.
They don't tell me what they say to you, but I can tell you a little about them. She is about nurturing and healing, especially spiritual healing, and Himself speaks of protection, of deep and committed relationships, and of shamanism. My theory is that perhaps your partner needs some spiritual healing or shamanic experience in addition to the physical healing the doctors are providing. Or maybe you do--taking care of a sick partner and all of the other things you both normally handle together and separately takes a toll on a person.
After you talk with them, She offers you a crystal goblet, filled with clear water that's neither too cold nor too warm, and you drink, and then they are gone and you are standing in the wood with The Sage. There is no clearing or path, only snow falling. There are now a number of squirrels happily eating nuts in the trees around you.
He lets you wander in the wood as long as you want, talking or not as you choose, and leads you back to my porch. As promised, you are just opening the door and shaking the snow off your boots as I come back out of the kitchen, cats curling around my feet. The cats look up as you enter and they scatter, the long-haired Siamese darting upstairs and the black cat moving to peer at you cautiously from the library.

The Creator Goddess, Hina
Date: 2017-01-24 06:28 am (UTC)Here is a link to the painting--and to a nice written piece about the Goddess. I often, since Seddon Boulet’s paintings are so easily available on the internet, Google a link to the art when I do readings from this deck, but this is the first time I found such a lovely history of the Goddess and things related to Her – for instance, there is an anime character named after her.
Hina is a creator Goddess and an adventurer. Although she is often characterized as living in the moon, in this image the moon and stars hang in her hair like a crown; she may have created them and gathered them before scattering them across the sky, but they cling close when they can, honoring her free and generous spirit. It seems to me that she is here as a muse or creative companion for you. The tiny bit of her story on the back of the card tells of how when she had a love affair with an eel and that being was killed, she buried its head and several days later, the first coconut tree grew out of the grave. Whatever troubles you are facing, whatever is happening in the world, she will help you find your creativity and your ability to call forth the nourishment and support that are needed.
She says, right now the world may be dark, but dawn is approaching.
