New Moon Readings
Nov. 17th, 2017 03:10 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I've been busy, and missed the Full Moon. Ah, well, I did get some paintings into a mini-art exhibit here in town and I have been doing NaNoWriMo, trying to finish and then start some new unicorn-related stories. (Since I had a deadline for rewriting one snow-unicorn story and for finishing another, I named this year's "Novel" Unicorn Triptych. I've also been working on A Fiction Writer’s Quirky Guide to Courting Inspiration and Foiling Writer’s Block and musing about that Patreon thing. I have actually started to write up some rewards and goals, and am hesitating about whether I've got them at all right. I'm also hesitating about doing a video. Ack!
What have you been up to? I love to hear from you.
New friends and old are very welcome.
About the readings,
You can simply ask for a single card (with the usual clarifying card for people who tip). The guitar case below is my personal PayPal link, featuring my own artwork, which still inspires me even though it isn't Tarot-related.
I am also offering a five-card reading for $25, or if you want a larger reading we can discuss costs. As always, a signal boost will allow you to ask for a clarification card on some part of this reading, if you wish. Alternatively, for at least $10 you can ask for a Torn World reading and get an in-character reading set in Affamarg or the Breidalam Mountains using that world's standard layout for the divination disks.
Regardless of the length of the reading, you may ask about real life or a creative project, even for a character you play in a game. I can draw a card for you to meditate on, to represent the Guide you need right now, or to get you unstuck. I can draw a card for your protagonist or villain, or can draw a card or cards for you to use as writing or art prompts, and I can modify a more-traditional five-card spread into a prompt for a story focusing on plot or characters or a little of both. Let me know if you have any particular request.
For free one card readings, you can pick from the Brian Froud's Faeries Oracle, the Daughters of the Moon Tarot (one of the round decks), or the Shapeshifter Tarot. If you don't pick a deck, I might pick from any of the decks available to me.
The first card is free (though tips are always appreciated). Paid readings, short or long, also let you ask me to use any of my other decks, including but not limited to my combined Susan Seddon Boulet Animal Spirits and Goddesses cards and my Fantasy Showcase Tarot deck where each card was done by a different science fiction/fantasy artist.
Tipping can also be used to request a private reading.
Signal boosts are very much appreciated, and also earn you the right to ask for a clarifying card. (If you only signal boost, please do not ask for two cards to start with. A clarifying card, if the reading is unclear to you, is fine.)
I understand all too well that when people don't have cash or spoons that is generally when they most need inspiration. Don't be afraid to ask for a card if you can't tip.
When you tip, it's helpful to me for you to mention it here so I can connect your Paypal information with your request. Tips should be at least $2 (Paypal charges fees). If Paypal doesn't work for you, drop me a message and we'll work something out.
I've written before about why I do readings and about some of the decks I use here, feel free to hop over and check me out. I'll wait.
I will reply to all requests. In the highly unlikely event that the number of requests nears my limits, I'll close this card draw by changing the status line below rather than risk leaving anyone without a response.
Thank you, and Blessed Be!
Status: Open to free one-card readings until I go to sleep Sunday night (which will doubtless be well after midnight) and open to tipped readings until this status message is changed.
As always, these readings are for entertainment and inspiration only. See my "Dandelyon's Readings" page if you have questions.

Date: 2017-11-17 10:10 pm (UTC)Thanks.
Maat
Date: 2017-11-18 01:36 am (UTC)For you, I draw the Goddess Maat. She is the Egyptian Goddess of truth, balance, order, harmony, law, morality, and justice. I can see any of these things being out of whack tripping up a person's creativity and spirituality.
The image is a woman sitting in a meditative pose, holding an ankh in on hand and scales in the other. Over her head is a sun image, with large, stylized eyes looking at you.
This is a good, strong card. It came out upright, so I think it's saying you have the resources necessary to get things moving again, but given the question, it might be a warning that the forces you have to deal with are strong. But even if it's the latter, it is a strong card and does not speak of defeat or failure. You can figure this out.
I suggest considering what is out of place in your life. How is that thing (or those things) taking up your time, attention, and emotional energy? Is there something you thought wasn't that important that you could address and clear out of the way? Is there something that needs more oversight or to be brought out into the sun? Or maybe the issue is more about your energy level? The sun is where all our energy comes from, but too much of that energy can leave us parched and dry or even burnt, which can be just as dangerous as having too little sun-light and sun-warmth in our lives.
This doesn't tell me what the issue(s) might be, but it does point to some specific areas to look at. Perhaps the response will be more clear to you.

Moo Analysis / Two of Blades
Date: 2017-11-20 12:28 am (UTC)The first card seemed to be mostly about identifying what's causing the stuckness. So, once you identify the source(s) of the problem, what do you do about it?
The image on this card is two black belts sparring with swords. Where the swords cross is a huge, bright eight-pointed star, centering on a purple circle that is the center of concentric rings of color, a stylized rainbow. It looks like the rainbow is woven or knitted, so if I ignore the people, it kind of looks like a winter hat seen from above.
Swords are generally air, so thinking about this and confronting it intellectually should help. Given the very direct image, it looks like you need to confront it directly and actively. Take up your tools and get to work.
It might also be an admonition that you need to practice, not the easy way, with a wooden or rattan practice sword, but wholeheartedly.
There may be some additional significance in having a sparring partner to help you practice. Remember the martial arts (at least the ones that hand out black belts) are as much about discipline and focus as they are about fighting.
Finally, you have a metaphorical blade in your hand--you can cut through stuff if need be, whether that means digging yourself out of some rut or removing impediments with care and precision. Or you can cut your ice cream into fair portions with it.

Date: 2017-11-18 02:15 am (UTC)Valor
Date: 2017-11-18 03:55 am (UTC)Ah, for you I drew Valor, the seven of the air element, which in this deck is associated with wands.
The image is a leaping shape-shifter woman with a lion's head and forepaw and leathery wings. Her hair/mane is joined with the sun's corona. Feathers are falling from her arm. Below is a dog, well, I think it's a dog, but I've heard people call it a lion or other big cat. There is some lovely vining around it, but the ground under it is lines that lead to the glow rising from where the sun rises to become the woman.
Hmm...Is she supposed to be the sun, a dragon, a griffin, a lion, or what? I mean, she could be two or maybe three of the above, but all of them? Unless this imagery is particularly meaningful to you as it relates to the story, my instinct, given the details that rose to my attention this time, is that there are things and perhaps even major characters that need to be refined and defined better. Unless there's a reason for ambiguity (and there are some good ones that might apply to your story), you need to settle on some things firmly to make the characters and situation real, believable, and meaningful to your readers.
It's a refinement that you and Shashigai would have made together, if things had happened differently, and there's no guarantee that you'll make all of the same decisions, but Shashigai's creative imprint will still be an integral part of the story. You can be brave, and do what the story needs, to bring it to life.
And if you need to cut some of the ideas that inspire you from this novel, set them aside to use in a different story. His legacy doesn't have to all be in this one story. Make this one what it needs to be, and then when you're finished, you can move on to the next one.
Re: Valor
Date: 2017-11-24 06:22 am (UTC)It seemed to me that this card showed clearly what things might look like from a perspective outside myself. Where Shashigai's influence was solid and bold, not caught up and muddied by my fears/loss. Where my own creative vision is coming out less precisely than it seems from the inside. I got some feedback that showed I was forgetting to describe things that were so patently obvious and familiar to me that I didn't realize they would provoke questions to an outsider.
In this next section I have to work on, there may be a lot of fragments that don't make it in. I'm still struggling with the organization of it, which of course has to be done before I can get any further with word count.

Date: 2017-11-18 09:25 am (UTC)Queen of Cups
Date: 2017-11-19 02:42 pm (UTC)Cups is always about emotions. The traditional meaning of the Queen speaks of devotion, loyalty, and familiar joys and pleasures.
I really like this card. Today, however, the paleness makes me think you might be stretching yourself too thin, either giving too much to family (family of birth or choice) or not spending enough time with them to refresh yourself. It's even possible that both are true, in one way or another.
The other thing that strikes me is her staring at the skull, when there's other things to see. Whether the circle behind her is a window or a mirror, it might be good to turn and see what you're missing.
The rose, too, is neglected. Perhaps you need some time out in nature or enjoying the beauty in the world, whether natural or human-made.
These things may not address your practical problems, but in making you feel better and more focused, hopefully they will leave you in better shape to address them yourself.
Re: Queen of Cups
Date: 2017-11-19 02:53 pm (UTC)I am stretching myself too thin, and in both of the ways you describe! And also just because there are so many mundane things - Thanksgiving is the most obvious one, even though my "feast" will be just my husband and myself, whenever he gets home from work. But all the December holidays are looming, too. Fortunately, one of the "holidays" I celebrate in December is my birthday, and it happens to fall on one of my husband's days off this year, so we are determined to go somewhere and do something and just be together. (I think I'm the neglected rose!) Now I just need to figure out how to look at the mirror/window...
Thanks!

Date: 2017-11-19 10:18 am (UTC)Advice on better organising myself for sleep would be appreciated. :)
(The problem isn't that I don't sleep, it's that I fall asleep where I am because I can't continue to be awake,)
Tonight I'm trying reorganising things a bit....
The Sage
Date: 2017-11-19 03:26 pm (UTC)Our footsteps wake The Sage, who was napping near one of the rose bushes. He looks up and stretches. "Oh, there you are."
I didn't put a coat on, and I'm realizing it's just about freezing out. "We should go inside--unlike you fairies, we get cold."
He smiles. "Oh, I feel the cold too, though not quite the same way you do. Winter is coming, it makes me sleepy. But I'd be happy to come inside with you. I should head home before the winter's long sleep--I sleep better in my bed than in a garden, even one as lovely and newly-winter bound as yours."
I lead you both inside, as The Sage chats with you about the pleasures of sleep. Then he turns to me. "Do you have hot chocolate?
I smile. I keep milk and chocolate handy, always. "Of course."
You ask him a question, and he talks about the importance of simplifying one's thoughts. "To go to sleep on purpose, it helps to do something that slows you down, like winter slows me down. You know all the advice, really, you have to have heard it all. Some of it will work for you. I think you know at least some things that help you feel relaxed and sleepy. The key is to do those things wisely and mindfully."
You nod. He smiles at you and pats your hand. "You'll figure it out." He looks at me. "You should be more mindful about your sleep too."
Um, yeah. I go to get people's drinks.
********
(As a personal note, if you're falling asleep when you think you've gotten enough sleep, or without realizing you're sleepy, you should have that checked out, make sure you don't have sleep apnea or a med that's having side effects or something else that might be fixed or improved. Good luck!)
