Spontaneity can be good

People who know me in person have probably seen this; after I painted it it became the front-piece for a dress.

Hmm...I wonder how other people manage to post pictures that appear large. I guess I'm still in the learning curve for this place.

Oh wow! I can see what you're talking about, about it starting out a phoenix and definitely becoming a horse. That is remarkable. I love the unexpectedness of it... a fire horse!

Yes, my desire to paint a fire-being didn't change just because it had a horse's head instead of a bird's. The fullness of the tail is partially an example of the dangers of working in a medium you can't erase--I didn't have any pictures of a horse in the right position to refer to, and my attempts at hind legs were all just dreadfully wrong. They got worked into the hairs of the tail...despite that, I was in the right focus when I did this; I spent hours looking at it afterward, trying to pull into my conscious skills stuff that I'd done in the flow of the moment.

Someday I'll figure out a place to scan the whole thing; this image is most of it, of course, but it's only the 11 x 17 inches that's the maximum the scanner at work can handle.
