The Union of Concerned Scientists is once again having a cartoon contest, and I've been focusing on drawing instead of posting for a few days. Once again, I came up with two entries; I don't know how they feel about stuff like posting active entries, but I could post the ones that didn't win last year, I suppose.

They will use the 12 finalists as a calendar, to publicize the problems caused by political interference in science.

Hmmm.... now if I can just figure out how to post pictures...let's see if this works!

Well, those came out awfully small! I've more to learn, obviously!

But when you click on the pics, they take you to a somewhat larger display. Cool -- thanks.

Glad to hear someone enjoyed them.

The ones this year are much more polished artistically; I didn't think the winners were funnier than mine, but they were more professional looking.

Sometime in July I'll either be able to post my non-winning entries here, or to point people toward the chance to vote for the best of the 12 finalists (12 because they will then make those into a calendar).

I wonder if it would be worth re-doing either of these, for a convention art show or t-shirt or something?

Art show... t-shirt... stationery... Course, the dealer's route has many pitfalls and _I_ could never do it...

I'm more interested in doing the art show at this point, but the question is trying to figure out whether there would be interest in those particular ideas, and if so would art be best, or a t-shirt (or other)? It's not a scientific survey, but you're welcome to share your thoughts.

Personally, (1) I have my art in rotation, and there's some stuff I've not seen in years, to the point that when/if I dig it out I don't remember having owned it, and (2) I have enough T-shirts that if it doesn't reach out and grab me above and beyond the norm (like the one I use in my icon), I'll not get it. And I'm trying seriously hard to simplify my life and surroundings, so I'm not a good data point.

That said, I would find it more interesting that a certain percentage of the uff-stay in the Art Show. I don't remember the last item I really wanted from an Art show, though, so I'd honestly not be likely to pick it up there.

I mentioned stationery, though, since that's a cosumable, and if the art would lend itself to being shrunk to the point that it wouldn't take up all of a sheet -- or if it were on the front of a card, that is something I might consider.

I know about having more art than wallspace!

I will keep the thought of note cards in mind. By the way, these are starting to be sold in the print shops at cons, some of which are a corner of the art show, and some of which are in a separate room.

Thanks for your thoughts!
