I was at 46,500 the last time I looked, and have been writing. I took a break to do a Friday Flash story. I wanted to be finished with the 50K today so I can rewrite the short story I drafted earlier this month.
Yes, a job would take some time away from writing, though I do need to spend some time every day doing other things; typing 10k in a day is quite feasible, but not as new fiction. Time spent thinking and planning is very much a part of the process.
I think the job interview went well; the last several interviewers told me, in so many words, that I'm one of the most highly qualified candidates, and that there was no doubt in their minds that I could do the job. But also that that was true of a bunch of other people too. There's more highly qualified people who need a job in my area right now than there are jobs.
Sadly, this guy was pretty clear that he wanted to have someone start before Thanksgiving so his current secretary could acquaint the new person with his preferences and the office procedures. And I didn't get a call Monday morning. So I don't think I will get that job.
