I have been trying to think of any semantically analogous definitions, but just can’t. When you buy a house, your mortgage doesn’t begin the last time you paid rent before closing. In computer programming, a “do while” doesn’t start until the while condition is valid. Even when you sauté sliced onions, you’re not sautéing them until they are in the pan.
