New Moon - Total Eclipse! - Card Reading
Status: No new free card requests, please. Paid readings are fine, however.
So, I've been dealing with a family medical thing, and not much on the internet. I have a partially-written post about the wonderful writer's conference I went to last month that I haven't finished, and other stuff to share, but mostly what's been on my mind is this medical thing, and it's not my story to tell (which I am finding is frustrating for a storyteller to deal with). But I will continue to respect the person's wish for privacy, and not share details. It's nothing to be alarmed about, however, though I was worrying for a while. But medical stuff is always like that--there's always a chance things could go wrong, or something is worse than the doctors thought. So you worry. It's a part of being human, I think.
Today I'm wishing I could travel to see the eclipse properly in totality, but it is not to be. We'll see as much as we can from outside the clinic where there's a doctor's appointment shortly after as much of the totality as we'll get to experience. I guess I'll count my blessings and be happy that the appointment isn't during the height of it.
The cards are set out in a big window, out of their silk wrappings to absorb the energy of the eclipse.
I'm going to offer a five-card reading for $25 or a three-card for $20, or if you want a larger reading we can discuss costs. As always, a signal boost will allow you to ask for a clarification card on some part of this reading, if you wish.
Or, of course, you can simply ask for a single card (with the usual clarifying card for people who tip or boost the signal). The guitar case below is my personal PayPal link, featuring my own artwork, which still inspires me even though it isn't Tarot-related.
So, let's see if I can offer some some inspiration or spark some creativity for you. You can ask about real life or a creative project, or even a game. Ask that once-in-a-lifetime question, if you want, in your heart if you don't want to write it out. Perhaps the energy of the eclipse will offer special insight. I can draw a card for you to meditate on, to represent the Guide you need right now, or to get you unstuck. I can draw a card for a character or can draw a card or cards for you to use as writing or art prompts, and I can modify a more-traditional spread into a prompt for a story focusing on plot or characters or a little of both.
New friends and old are very welcome. I'm happy to have you visit.
For free one card readings, you can pick from the Brian Froud's Faeries Oracle, the Daughters of the Moon Tarot (one of the round decks), or the Shapeshifter Tarot. You can ask a question, ask for a Guide or for inspiration, or you can just ask for a card. I don't need to know what your question is, but you are welcome to share it with me if you like.
The first card is free (though tips are always appreciated). Tips (including requests for longer readings) also let you ask me to use my combined Susan Seddon Boulet Animal Spirits and Goddesses cards. Other decks (unless you want me to read for you using Magic the Gathering cards, which have great artwork and therefore could be used) are not available right now. Tipping can also be used to request a private reading, or to draw a clarifying card. If you want a longer reading, send a direct message so we can agree on the type of reading and rate.
Signal boosts are very much appreciated, and also earn you the right to ask for a clarifying card. I'd love to do a bunch of readings for this eclipse! I expect to stay open until at least Tuesday night, and possibly longer.
I understand all too well that when people don't have cash or spoons that is generally when they most need inspiration! Don't be afraid to ask for a card if you can't tip.
If you tip, it's helpful to me for you to mention it here so I can connect your Paypal information with your request. Tips should be at least $1 (Paypal charges fees). If Paypal doesn't work for you, drop me a message and we'll work something out.
I've written before about why I do readings and some of the decks I use here, feel free to hop over and check me out. I'll wait.
I will reply to all requests. In the highly unlikely event that the number of requests nears my limits, I'll close this card draw by adding a clear note at the top of the post rather than risk leaving anyone without a response. However, I intend to stay open through the weekend, and longer for paid readings.
Thank you, Blessed Be, and Happy Eclipse!
As always, these readings are for entertainment and inspiration only. See my "Dandelyon's Readings" page if you have questions.

Ilbe the Retriever
I did, through a stranger's glasses outside of a clinic, but see it I did. I wasn't close enough to totality for it to be very dark, but still, the difference was there, dark like a thunderstorm was looming, but the shadows on the ground in between clouds showed that the sun was high in the sky, and shining down on us.
I like to think the fairies were there too, though they could have been anywhere, of course. Ilbe was probably quite busy, here and there, since his job is to hold things safe, things that we thought we've lost, until we're ready to reconsider them.
The reminder that light always follows darkness usually comes in midwinter, not midsummer, but here we are, the sun bright after the eclipse, and Ilbe standing next to you offering you something--an acorn? Or perhaps not, perhaps that's merely how it appears to me in this moment. He's offering it to you--back to you, that is. I can't tell if it's a hope or a dream or just something very personal, but he thinks it's time for you to take it up again. Sometimes all that's needed is a willingness to open our hearts and minds to what Ilbe has been keeping safe for us, but more often, it's something we need to work for. But either way, he's smiling at you and his hand is open. It's up to you whether you take whatever it is on now, or later, or never.
Re: Ilbe the Retriever
Not really. Not outside of television, but the local news had it second by second because locally we apparently had part of a particularly good view that hadn't been seen in a few hundred years. I was mostly trying to take a much needed mental rest in between gathering various items that have to be removed from around the house when I glanced over. (A death in the family would be the darkness that finally came to pass, in that case.)
So seeing Ilbe the Retriever with hope and an acorn's good to me! (Sort of amusingly/weirdly? Pretty much all the readings anyone gave me up to just prior to that moment for the last few months only said turmoil would ensue in the coming days/there is an oncoming storm to weather. So hope is a welcome change in readings now that that awful piece has happened.)
Thank you for the reading, by the way. I forgot to say that earlier.

Crone and One of Pentacles
I'm not sure why the younger woman is bringing a pole for the teepee after the hide is partially erected, that seems odd to me. Perhaps one of the original ones broke? In any case, the crone is smiling at her, so while there's work to do, and perhaps some remedial work as well, this isn't a disaster, just normal life.
For guidance, you get the One of Pentacles. Pentacles are generally about skill and resources, and both cards in your reading are Pentacles. Here, the image is a young woman straddling the flaming pentacle like a barrel. The card names her as Nu Kwa, the Chinese mother goddess and creator of humans. She has one arm held up to the sky and the other held downward, as if to say "As above, so below", or as if she is the connection between the larger cosmos and the creative power within. This may be guidance for where to focus your energies, or it could be reassurance that you do have the resources and skills to get to work and start making your goals real.
Re: Crone and One of Pentacles
(I'm guessing you are unaware that this is the week I am packing to move apartment? Because that feels like highly relevant context for both cards.)

But now this is-eclipsed-no pun intended-by the choice-family's dark season and whether or not the four of us will make it through as a clan or be splintered. SO tell me, plese, where is my biggest drawback right now? Because I don't think it's communication anymore like it was before. Also: https://we-are-spc.dreamwidth.org/87577.html boosted here. So...clarify what I need to start with=or continue doing, plz? Because all of us are frustrated-and very few of us like this situation right now. Also: which ever deck calls to you-I'm not one to limit there, though I probably should.

Aphrodite and Lada
Well, let's see what the cards have to say.
So, biggest drawback. I'm not sure what to make of that question, it doesn't feel like the right one to me, but I'm not you, so I could well be wrong.
Oh, interesting. For you I drew The Lovers--one of the two Lovers cards in this deck. This one is associated with Aphrodite, and snows two nude women embracing tightly. One is in the other's lap, her head buried against the other's neck. Rays of light flow from them, and they are drawn in the center of a Yoni.
What to start with or continue? The Maiden of Pentacles, or Lada, associated with Virgo. This woman is alone, dancing with a branch held overhead and a basket on the other arm, a doe and a rabbit and birds nearby, a stream behind her and flowers in front. Interestingly, she looks relaxed and happy, perhaps happier than the women clinging to each other in the other card.
I'm wondering if the balance of alone time and together time is off for your clan members? Everyone needs some of both, after all, and not everyone needs the same amount of either.
Looking up Lada, she is a Slavic Goddess of harmony, and Lada or Lado is a word in use in wedding songs. I think you're looking in the right places, and need to work with the clan on the issues of time together and apart, and on harmony. For what it's worth, these cards seem to offer hope for a choice-family to stay together, if you can find ways to let go of or fix the things that are frustrating you. I hope these images inspire you to find options that are good for everyone involved.
Re: Aphrodite and Lada
I don't know-but what I do know is our matriarch is a shaman and we're here...tools-supports-family, and it's...interesting.
But I at least have a starting point-and I'm still not sure how to talk to the other two about balancing acts because baby and other things-but this definitely gives me the hope I need to keep at it-if even just for my own self-actualization and...self-estem/benefits to me+them,, so thank you.

Re: Aphrodite and Lada
Maybe propose finding some way to give each of you a substantial chunk of time off every week, one way or another? This can be phrased in the context of babies are intense and exhausting, which is so obviously true that it can hardly be taken as controversial or threatening. Or you may need to find some one who can babysit once in a while so the three of you can have adult-time together, doing whatever you most want or need to do--even if that's as simple as taking a nap or sharing a quiet meal. If you are short on money, maybe one of you has a skill that can be traded. I know I'd do babysitting for dishes, for instance, though I doubt you live anywhere near me.
However you approach it, good luck!
As to English, I think it is weird for many of us sometimes. Maybe even most of us. The challenge is that it is weird in different ways at different times and for different people.
Re: Aphrodite and Lada
I'm in Indiana. Parents )One genderqueer transman and his wife (Who is the matriarch) are in Ohio; other member of our little clan is in Louisiana. )Yes, there are four of us. xd)
...
And we need to make it through the dark season (Which starts in 2 weeks) in order to...even think about finding a shared place.
That said, these are not bad thoughts if modified to fit. :d Especially if we can all agree on a day where we sit down online (Or voice chat, though one of us is hard of hearing) to talk and discuss and curse. xd )Also? extra challenge; every, single, one, of us is multiple.)
You are awesome for this. <3
And yes, it is. I do wish it had more words for certain things-but that's always been a complaint ofours-even for languages in this world. :d

I hope it gave you the insight you needed. I always worry when my intuition says the reading should be short and to the point.

Balance
I'm struck by how similar the energy is to Ariestess' card, but while flames focus on energy and transformation, pentacles is more about skill. But still, the flirting with danger, the playfulness, the energy, and the potential for joy seem very similar to me.

Mawu
Sometimes birth is frantic and difficult, but in this image, perhaps because Mawu is the Goddess of creation, it seems serene, natural, inevitable. Not that it isn't labor, but that the labor is done by a person well-prepared and suited to that labor.
In Dahomey mythology, Mawu, is a West African Mother Earth creator Goddess associated with both the sun and moon. She is the Goddess of the night, of joy, and of motherhood as well as the ruler of the world's wisdom and knowledge. That fits with the elephant too, often considered a symbol of wisdom and memory, and elephants are very nurturing of their young and each other as well.
I also find it interesting that for an eclipse reading, you drew a Goddess that is associated with both the sun and the moon. It suggests that things are coming together for you, and that you can bring the new things that are needed or even just wanted into being.
Re: Mawu
I would be very, very happy if things were coming together for me, and I can bring new things into being!

old life eclipsed, new life being launched
As for the cosmic event earlier this week, I was one of the lucky few within driving range of totality, so I got to experience that with a friend and in the company of other "non-traditional" folks. It was glorious!
Transcendence reversed
Sorry it took me so long to reply. I've been quite exhausted, and also craving vitamins, so perhaps I was fighting off some virus.
Hot temps are hard on a lot of people, and from what I've seen, they get harder as you get older, not easier. But let's see what the cards offer.
I drew a card from the Shapeshifter Tarot for you, and got major Arcana 20, Transcendence, reversed. The image is a harper in the sun, surrounded by joyous butterfly women enjoying the light and heat. Um, yeah. This is not a thing you can transcend. I would suggest talking to your doctor to get practical advice that's geared properly to your own body and health issues.
In some way you have to address this on the physical plane. That might mean working hard on adequate electrolytes and drinking lots of water, staying in the shade, using sun screen (a sunburn increases the heat load on the body), finding some way to keep cooler (lighter clothes, a fan, sandals), staying acclimated to the heat (not retreating to air conditioning at night). I'm not sure what things this new job will accommodate--though there might be more that can be done with the support of your doctor that you need it than could be done otherwise.
But it's clear that you cannot just get through this with willpower and stubbornness. You have to address it somehow, be in the moment and in the flesh and listen to your body, finding ways to give it what it needs.
Good luck!
Re: Transcendence reversed
Please take care of yourself too! Hope you feel better soon.
