Full Moon Readings

So, the computer follies continued for so long the Geek Squad guys told me they were tired of seeing me. I realized several days after the New Moon that I'd missed posting. I do apologize about that! Life's been busy, and making multiple trips to the computer store in between getting help online didn't help my focus at all.

Eventually they diagnosed the core problem--there is a tiny solid state hard drive that has failed and needs replacement in the computer. It's is invisible to the user, but that the operating system relies on. Urgh. Every salesman I talked to said those break less than the regular ones. Now that computer is off getting the drive replaced, and I'm praying that's all that's wrong with it. I miss having a computer that's all set up for the stuff I want to do. The good news, however, is that so far they've found no problems with the main hard drive, so I shouldn't get a blank slate back. I backed up all the files, but it's a pain to set up the programs.

In better news, I've signed up for an in-person writer's workshop with some fabulous teachers and an online course in anthology construction, so I'm hoping to build up my Paypal account to cover expenses. Therefore I'm offering a five-card reading for $25, or if you want a larger reading we can discuss costs. As always, a signal boost will allow you to ask for a clarification card on some part of this reading, if you wish. Alternatively, you can ask for a Torn World reading and get an in-character reading in Affamarg or the Breidalam Mountains using that world's standard layout for the divination disks.

So, let's see if I can offer some some inspiration or spark some creativity for you. You can ask about real life or a creative project, or even a game. I can draw a card for you to meditate on, to represent the Guide you need right now, or to get you unstuck. I can draw a card for a character or can draw a card or cards for you to use as writing or art prompts, and I can modify a more-traditional five-card spread into a prompt for a story focusing on plot or characters or a little of both.

New friends and old are very welcome. The grass is shaggy, and weeds are keeping the tomato and squash plants company, but some of the roses have started to bloom, and I'm happy to have you visit.

For free one card readings, you can pick from the Brian Froud's Faeries Oracle, the Daughters of the Moon Tarot (one of the round decks), or the Shapeshifter Tarot. You can ask a question, ask for a Guide or for inspiration, or you can just ask for a card. I don't need to know what your question is, but you are welcome to share it with me if you like.

The first card is free (though tips are always appreciated). Tips (including requests for longer readings) also let you ask me to use any of my other decks, including but not limited to my combined Susan Seddon Boulet Animal Spirits and Goddesses cards and my Fantasy Showcase Tarot deck where each card was done by a different artist. Tipping can also be used to request a private reading, or to draw a clarifying card. If you want a longer reading, send a direct message so we can agree on the type of reading and rate.

I'd like a five-card reading, please (that crumpled wad of bills in the guitar case is from me).

My husband's car problem turned out to be very similar to your computer problem. There are a number of different "control modules" in the car, one of which controls the Anti-ski Braking System. He was getting blinking, beeping warnings on the dashboard, telling him the ABS had failed, and that he should pull off the road immediately and call the dealership (we have no idea where it was originally bought, because we're at least the third set of owners). He tried to troubleshoot it himself, with my help, and finally found YouTube videos that showed him how to diagnose what was wrong, and how to replace the module.

However, this kept him so occupied that he hasn't had time to help me move my ancient, and now malfunctioning, computer out to where I can take it apart. I already know what's wrong with it, and I don't think it's ever going to function again, but I can take out the hard drive and copy all my data and stuff to the computer that works. I bought the old one, brand-new, in 1997, and upgraded it as time went on, but it was barely usable for anything current - the processor was much too slow. But I managed to keep it working for 20 years!

So, yeah, now seems to be a good time for more information - thanks!

Once again, I did your reading with the Daughters of the Moon Tarot.

The center, which I take to be you, is the Crone of Pentacles, or Pasowee Buffalo Woman. The image is of an old woman and a young one setting up a teepee in the snow. You are in need of shelter and have the tools and materials you need and a reasonable idea of how to get it, but could use some help. This card also echoes back to an earlier reading, where you were teaching weaving to a younger person.

The basis of the matter--the factors that underly your current situation is the Six of Flames, or Bast. This card is also titled play. Young gymnasts are playing with the flame. They perhaps have more skill at controlling themselves than they do with the wild elemental power of the flames. Still, no one is getting burned, and cat-headed Bast looks on, smiling.

In the past is the three of Cups, or Bonding. Three women dancing together, holding up their cups in celebration or to toast each other. This has a similar sense of dancing as Play, and similar colors. Harmonious energy.

In the future, however, is the five of cups, also titled The Storm, showing that your troubles are not yet over. There's lots of energy in this card, of course, but it's tumultous and might be perilous. Still, three of the cups are still upright, despite storm and lightning and flood, and one sits solidly on a rock, untroubled by the storm. I'm not sure if this is evidence that the early energy has become disorganized or fallen out of harmony, or if this is outside forces. The weather isn't malicious, just chaotic.

And the final card, the skills or resources you can reach for to get you through the storm, that one is the Three of Pentacles, called Aruru Clay Woman. Once again an American Indian woman, so I think again this is you. In this card, the woman is sitting alone, making pottery vessels, her kiln to one side and finished pots to the other.

While I was dealing out the cards, two cards escaped me, and fell to the floor. I am interpreting this as that they represent something that's missing, something that's needed. They are Meditation and Balance/the Bull Leapers (the Seven of Blades and the Five of Pentacles respectively). The names of these cards seem to be quite clear.

Putting this all together, I see that there's a lot of energy and movement that has led to this place and that is going on, and I don't get the feeling that any of it is bad, just that it has gotten out of balance, that taking some time for contemplation, grounding and centering yourself, and finding ways to make the movement more harmonious or more directed would help.

This doesn't necessarily mean resting more--though in Meditation the Eskimo and her dog are indeed resting--because the Bull Dancers, young women leaping onto the horns and back of a charging bull, they are not in any way resting or taking it easy. They must be alert and in motion, using all of their skill and knowledge, to survive, much less thrive in their circumstances. And yet they are not desperate, they are celebratory.

They share that total focus with the woman making perfectly round pots despite not having a spinning wheel, and the colors of the two cards are also very similar. Meditation is also a matter of focus more than anything else.

There's nothing wrong with chaos, of course, but only chaos is tiring and frustrating. Be mindful, whether it's focusing on a single project or juggling a dozen. Be focused, in stillness or in motion. Resolve the dissonance by re-establishing harmony. The storm won't last forever, they never do.

I do self-identify as a Crone, although not necessarily by the traditional definition of that role :-)

I don't have any young people specifically coming to me to be taught right at the moment. Most of the "young people" - most of my friends, in fact) - are around 40 now, with their paths well-defined beneath their feet.

I find myself wishing I could join in the joyful danger-dance of gymnasts who are Fire adepts, under Bast's approving gaze. Likewise the Three of Cups, which reminds me of Leslie Fish's "Sisters Dancing Together". My husband and I have a loose plan for going out and just having a quiet good time together when we can (we're probably going to see Wonder Woman next week), which isn't exactly "celebratory", but at least it's Play of a sort.

Most of the time, I love storms - I call myself "Lightning" for reasons! But Superstorm Sandy was almost more than I could bear.

Yes, I can see myself as the solitary craftswoman, highly skilled after years of practicing her craft, making beautiful and useful things as her mind slips into a meditative state.

And Bull Leapers, while applying very highly developed skills, are also engaged in Play.

I find chaos exhilarating and exciting... up to a point. (I enjoyed chaos a lot more when I was younger and had more energy.) But I think you're right about my needing more centeredness, more meditation. Ironically, I've been trying to remind my husband to meditate more - I guess I should take my own advice!

Ah, so perhaps the storm in your near future is, at least in part, more play. I enjoy lightning storms too.

Meditation can be play as well. That gives some significantly different ways to interpret the reading. More focus could mean more play, not less.

I was in the process of adding links to a couple of songs that your reading reminded me of. First, the Three of Cups (in almost any deck) always reminds me of the filksong "Sisters Dancing Together". And the concept of meditating while in action brings to mind Willie Nelson's "Still Is Still Movin' To Me". But you replied to my comment while I was getting the URLs, and I couldn't edit my reply!

Yes, that card in this deck always makes me think of Sisters Dancing Together.

That's always been one of my favorite filks, going back to when things like that were only available on home-recorded cassette tapes :-)

Hmmm... the chords are pretty simple; I could figure out how to accompany myself on the ukulele while singing it...

For you I drew the one of the Fire Element. A tree woman is struck by lightning, but she looks ecstatic, and empowered, as if she is taking in the lightning or perhaps is the lightning. Her arms are upraised and she is smiling. Her hair rises to blend with the tree branches. There is a cow with her. She is rooted in a bright pool of light, and illuminates the darkness around her.

I think, if you need a message, you need to look to your own heart, your own roots, and how you connect to both the magical center of your own power and the wide, wonderful, mysterious world around you.

Flame is also a transformative force, which could be an important part of the meaning for you. It isn't important to worry about whether you transform the world or it transforms you, because that's a constant feedback loop. It's both, all the time, though sometimes the changes are more dramatic than others.

The serpent-woman is coiled around a menhir, which holds or celebrates the spirits of several beings, human and feline. But that is hard to see, for there is a bright light coming from behind the menhir, streaming around it like lightning to warm or provide light for the serpent. She is all golden, and her scales almost blend in with the cobblestones beneath her--or perhaps they do, perhaps she is also the ground itself, made manifest.

The serpent is a symbol of transformation and rebirth. We can all shed our outgrown spiritual skins and emerge, glowing and bright, able to surpass our prior limitations.

When a snake is getting ready to shed its skin, its eyes "milk" over, for the whole skin is shed, including the skin over the eyes. It has a period of blindness, of feeling too small for its own skin, when things seem itchy and the world may seem more dangerous--well, of course it does, when you can't see what's around you. A nice, cool bath can help, both relieving the symptoms and helping to loosen the old skin so you can slide out of it, revealing the new you, all shiny and bright, vision once again clear.

It happens over and over again, this cycle of growth, of feeling wrong in your own skin, and then of revitalization, of opening your inner eyes wider and seeing things you didn't see before, or maybe just seeing the same things more clearly, and being able to grasp the things you could only barely touch with a fingertip before.

Listen to your own higher self. The monuments of the past can support you, but they cannot define you.

Something is backwards, that's for sure. In normal circumstances, a legacy is something good that's passed down to you, or that you are passing down to another. In this case, the energy got twisted or blocked. Either there's something that should have been passed on that got lost or hidden, or someone has passed on (or is in the process of passing on) a load of crap.

An example might be our political situation, where the people currently holding elective office are bent on changing or destroying the legacy of our most recent President, and that likely affects you as it affects all of us, but this feels more personal to me.

The figures in the foreground are deer-people, leading their herd, but reversed, it appears they've become tangled in a spider web, unable to lead or move forward, perhaps not even yet aware that the web exists. There are resources available to deal with this, but because of the tangle, they will likely be harder to reach.

I really am not sure who is (or was) the person or people who should have or should be handing down the legacy here, and I don't even get a sense of whether you're the leader who is stuck because your legacy wasn't handed down to you properly or whether you are one of the herd or even possibly the person who missed handing down a legacy when it was appropriate and nurturing to do so. No, that last one doesn't feel right as I type it, but you know your situation much better than I do. I could be wrong. Or this tangledness could be happening in your life in multiple ways, either interconnected or separate.

Whatever it is, good luck! Even if the legacy can't be claimed, there is a way past or around or through. But it's still possible that it can be properly claimed or passed on, now that your attention has shifted.

Thank you for the reading! I can't currently think of what the legacy could possibly be, aside from a current ongoing health crisis in the family. I could likely be part of the tangled herd dealing with it, as you're right. There wasn't any legacy I myself could be passing down/missing handing down.

It doesn't have to be a physical thing. It could be family stories or even simply a sharing or withholding of emotional support or information. If it's in regard to the family health crisis, it could even be that people are not sharing all the medical information, and that is causing confusion or quarrels. Or this could be in regard to some other part of your life, I don't get a strong feeling either way.

In any case, good luck with the family health crisis! Those are always hard.

The image is a spider woman, waiting in the center of her web over a pool. there is a green dragon above her and a red dragon below, and shining lights all around.

Every action has ripples, the signal of a water drop rippling out and the signal of anything touching the web rippling in.

The Star is generally about balance and connection, contemplation and peace. This deck using a spider is interesting, but seems to me to fit in with the fact that you are focused on work.

I would suggest that you pay attention to the connectedness of things and people in the work setting. Keeping necessary resources from people is counter-productive. If they get what they need, you can also get what you need. I think the web is metaphorical, connective instead of coercive, because the dragons are lifting their wings in strength and power. They are not tangled or trapped. But if the spider in the center chooses to change to sticky webbing, that could change.

Another likely interpretation is that people don't always _say_ the things that their ripples can tell you, if you pay attention. Those ripples matter. They will tell you if someone is struggling even if they don't know how to say it. And being in the center, you can see more than most of them can.

This card tells me that you are in a good situation, but you have to be perceptive and diligent, and also kind/benevolent, to keep it that way.

I'm sorry about your computer troubles! What a pain! I wish I could tip, but my budget is strained this month--perhaps next month.

The moon is serene overhead, and the scent of roses is on the air, mingling with the scent of cut grass. And yet, something is distracting you, some shadow or trouble or nightmare.

She comes galloping on the wind, racing an owl, trailing behind when you first see her, yet she is the first to touch the tiny bud on the wild-looking rose bush, high over your head. The owl laughs and turns, diving down to grab an unfortunate mouse and fly away with it.

Dorcha, however, stays, wandering through the garden to smell the different flowers. Each rose has a distinct scent, and she pronounces her judgment on them all as you talk.

Dorcha is a sphynx, though sometimes she looks more like a griffin and sometimes more like a winged girl and sometimes more like a centaur--and sometimes, when she looks at you, just like a girl, with no wings or tails, no talons or hooves at all. She invites you to ask questions, but always turns them on their heads--she's willing to have definite opinions about roses and dandelions and lilies of the valley, but despite your chosen avatar, she is quite firm that you are not a flower, and you must answer your own riddles.

But still, turning each problem on its head offers insight and inspiration. If you always look at a riddle the same way, it always remains the same mystery it was when you first heard--or posed--it, after all.

And each puzzle is just as much itself as each flower. Epona challenges you to enjoy them all, their shapes and scents and colors (and sometimes tastes), just as she enjoys flowers. The scent of the roses increases, somehow, when she munches on a petal or two and smiles, and asks, "Want to race?"

No card, just wanted to send some warm fuzzies and appreciation for offering moral support.
