Writing - a productive day
Jul. 12th, 2010 12:20 amNearly all of the food was problematic for me, but I expected that. I dug through my rings and covered my fingers to reduce temptation, and wore the moon necklace and matching earrings that I just finished. It was fun. My big splurge was buying some new stone beads from a sale bin. So sometime soon I can make a new necklace for me--and a similar one to give away or sell. So yesterday's big writing task was getting a few people who will be commenting on my old ghost story, so I can consider whether a rewrite will make it more publishable.
Today, I woke up not quite focused to work on the fairy gold story, so I looked over the comments I'd gotten on another story and rewrote it, printing it to send it off by snail mail. I also sent a query on a story that has been out there for months--and got back an apologetic rejection.
Then I rewrote the story, saving a backup copy, and then deleting so much it was practically like writing it from scratch. I now have a 2300 word first draft, though the shape of the story isn't quite right yet. I think it needs more at the end, or a different beginning, but I'm much happier with it than the previous, longer and far-from-finished, draft.
Of course, sending out so many by snail mail doesn't help me send those stories out again soon. But what can you do? You've got to respect the wishes of the editors if you want to sell to them.
Now, I'm off to send The Headmaster's Cat to another market, and increase that total to 46.
And then to sleep!
