Temp job 1 is very happy having me for just afternoons. Temp job 2 believes I'm fully trained. So now, unless the lady at Temp job 2 has her baby early, or one or the other job has more work than expected I have two weeks of half-days.

So today I was sitting here trying to get caught up on regular Torn World stuff (having spent much of the weekend, on Torn World contest stuff except for the unwanted adventure, finding the hiding kitten and then giving her away, and just being tired) when a big furniture truck parked outside my window. A REALLY big truck -- it was long enough to stretch across three whole houses on the other side of the street. After a while, a smaller truck came by, about the size most, people rent when moving, though it was simply painted schoolbus yellow. It backed up to the other truck, paperwork was signed, and the guys in the trucks moved furniture (mostly beds) from one truck to the other.

Hmm...I'm getting backwards, aren't I?  I should start my weekend report on Friday, shouldn't I?

Friday after work, My Angel asked me if I wanted to go outside and take pictures of the mushrooms in our front yard while there was light. Well, sure.  I'd taken pictures before, but that was in the deep twilight (deep enough that my camera read it as dark and I had to use a flash).  The picture here is from that earlier day last week.

So I headed out the front door and she headed out the back door.  I started carefully moving the fall's mulching leaves away from the mushrooms to see how many were actually there, but she didn't show up; finally we figured out she was waiting in back for me while I was waiting in front for her.

So we got together, moved more leaves and I took pictures.  Then we headed into the back yard, her with hand-scythe in hand to take care of some of the tall grass that the lawnmower couldn't get.

And now I must break mid-story because I see that I have to get out of here or be late for work. Sigh.

Life is just like that, you know?

Oh, yeah--unwanted adventure on Saturday.  In retrospect, it has some dark humor--My Angel was telling me that you have to be careful not to cut your fingers off with the hand scythe when she cut her finger.  Deep.  And she's on blood thinners.  Oh, yay!  Instead of continuing to do yard work and take pictures, we get to go to the hospital.  On a holiday weekend.

Hurray.

So I grabbed my laptop and purse and drove her to the hospital she'd been in when she had the pulmonary embolisms.  So we sat in the waiting room.  Then we sat at the counter where they input your information.  Then we sat in an exam room.  Eventually a nurse cleaned the cut, and a doctor added three spider-like black stitches, and I got to get instructions on changing the dressing.

During all this I tried to do some writing, with very limited success.

So now, at least until next Saturday, My Angel has a finger splint to keep her from bending the finger, so that the skin on top of the knuckle will actually grow back together instead of being pulled open.  So much for her plans for getting work done over the weekend and the next few days.

Oh, well, at least she didn't cut the finger off!

And, of course, by the time we got back, it was quite dark.

And then we found out that Mamacat had figured out how to open the media room door.  The kitten I was to give away Monday was nowhere to be seen.  More time spent searching for the cute little kitty, who had become all skittish as one by one her brothers were handed over to new human families.

Eventually I caught her in the living room, so I closed that room up again, and we took food, water, and a cat box back down there, with sighs of relief.  And I went back to trying to write, significantly tireder and more distracted than I had been.  I was just getting going when we heard the sliding door to the living room opening.

Did we have a burglar?  Nope--Mamacat had just figured out how to open that door too.  They had vanished into the much-cluttered basement.  We looked a bit, but it was late, and finally we went to sleep.

Sunday morning I tried to write, but kept getting up to look for the kitten.  I had firm intentions of waiting to look for her until My Angel was up, so we could double-team her once found, but it's hard to ignore the call to find the poor lost kitten.  Around dinnertime, food lured her to the kitchen, so we locked her and Mama into the room in the house that has the most secure latch--and which opens outward.  Then I piled my )small but heavy) suitcase full of sculpy and some other stuff in front of the door.

With the wayward cats safely trapped,  I should have been raring to go, but instead I was exhausted and falling asleep at the keyboard.  So I changed My Angel's dressing and headed to bed, with the kitten we're keeping (pictured here, playing with the strainer from the downstairs bathroom sink) in the bedroom with me, obviously very curious as to why I had a weird face-hugging thing on my head.

Got up just in time to have a glass of milk before [livejournal.com profile] xap  came to claim her family's new kitten.

All's well that ends well--My Angel's finger shows no sign of infection, and Xap wrote me here on LJ last night to let me know the kitten was curled up beside her, washing herself and licking Xap's hand.   And I finally got my minimum writing and art goals for the weekend done, before the deadline.

And I got word that the next chapter of the story of Dini and Lalya will be up on Torn World tomorrow!  I also submitted the first story to Ergo Fiction, whose theme for June 6-12 is "Love Is in the Air".  Hopefully they will include Building a Home in that issue, and their readers will like it.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

And now I'm all tired again.  *sigh*  Good night, all!
