It was a good weekend

I even got Mother's Day flowers!

my mothers day roses with painting supplies

You can see my sister's paints around the edges of the picture. I found myself in Chicago before I realized Sketchfest was happening.

I'm left with the question: Why are sea monsters easier to paint than people???

Now I'd better pay some bills and then maybe I'll have time to scan some paintings.

Sea monsters are easier to paint than people because the human eye is *very* sensitive to subtle differences between human faces. Our ability to thrive as social animals depended on being able to 1) tell the difference between individuals quickly and easily and to tell the difference between an individual who was content and one who was grumpy.

We had no need to identify sea monster individuals, so the lines can vary more without spoiling the drawing for the viewer.

Actually, I suspect it's because my brain doesn't think it knows so much about sea monsters, and it has the delusion that it knows a lot about human faces. It's probably wrong on both counts, of course.
