Somehow I missed this when you first posted it.
Minor nit: paragraph 5, "Five tiny carved cat" -- should be cats.
If the curse is (metaphorically) indelible, does she combat it (again metaphorically) by adding more ink to change the pattern, or by throwing away the spoiled page and rewriting it?
