It's a sign of something, I suppose

Several times a week lately I come home, look at my e-mails, and delete spam comments from my LJ. I have better things to do with my time, really!

Is this just bad luck, or is it a sign that as a writer I'm starting to attract more readers?

I think it's mainly a sign that we need to have more public impalings of spammers. I've been getting spam comments on my own LJ -- only a few, but I never used to see any.

Do you really think severe bodily punishment of one hacker (or even a dozen) would serve as a deterrent to others? Sadly, I don't. I suspect the thrill of beating the system is an essential motive for those people, and they'd just say the ones who got punished deserved it for letting themselves be caught.
